Guest guest
Chelle, I was in the hospital for two nights. I had it done abdominally as the fibroid was really big (it was hard to see the uterus at all as the fibroids had literally taken over) and I haven't had children so the area hasn't been stretched to accomodate a vaginal surgery. I never wanted children so I was thrilled not to have to suffer with periods that had never had any point in my life. This was my second time with the same surgery, more or less, I had a big fibroid removed 12 years ago. Had I known that there was an 80% chance it would come back I probably would have had it all taken then. I am the one who discovered it both times despite having an annual pelvic less then a year before both surgeries. I kept my ovaries and life has gone on pretty much normally. It took me twice as long to totally recover as I am now 41 and a lot older than the last time. I am glad you have had all the children you desire as the decision would be much harder to make. My only concern would be that your uterus could do this again and it will be so much harder as you get older. If you can have it done vaginally your recovery will be much easier (the sisters at hystersisters are usually back to work in about two weeks as opposed to 6-8 weeks). I am sure you will find the decision that works best for you. If you decided it is for you don't hesitate to write and ask my any questions you might have. Take care, AnnieChelle wrote: Annie <quesimple2000 (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> wrote: >>>>>>>Chelle, I am sooo sorry you are having all of these issues....and so young too! Annie, it's actually a blessing that I've made it this far without a hysterectomy...I feel like the suspension surgery on my uterus (nine yrs. ago) has bought me more time. But those broad ligaments are just shot now. >>>>>If, and when, you decide on the hyst I would like to suggest the website ..www.hystersisters.com. I think I have been on that site before, but thanks for reminding me. I read a book on hysterectomy yrs. ago...because I knew it would probably be in my future (I had really bad Endo). I don't want to have to have it...but I think the decision is being made for me. My uterus feels like it's literally sitting on my butt right now. My lower back is hurting...I've had pain with sitting for the past year and I know that is what it is.. the good thing is that my husband and I know we are finished with having kids. He had a vasectomy 3 yrs. ago. It would be so much harder to make the decision if I still wanted to have more kids. >>>>>I was very hesitant too, but it was the best thing for me. No periods, cramps, abdominal bloating for a year! I don't miss it at all. Thanks so much for telling me your experience...someone else just told me what a positive outcome they had as well. That is very comforting. I don't think the surgery should be taken lightly or that docs should do them unnecessarily, but in my case my uterus has definitely been problematic. Did you have an abdominal hysterectomy or a vaginal one? Did you stay in the hospital long? I hate staying in the hospital. I came home a day early with the birth of my last child. I wanted to! I can never sleep in the hospital...it's so noisy! I'm calling my doc Monday...and I'm going to try to get the ball rolling as soon as I can. I thought about having the suspension surgery again...but I just don't know if I'd be a candidate for that. Thanks so much, ~Chelle Be a better Heartthrob.
