Guest guest
Having IC, problems with the bowel such as Crohn's (as an example), and endometriosis can cause pain in the same area as vestibulodynia (formerly known as vulvar vestibulitis syndrome) and doesn't mean that the patient has vestibulodynia. Also, vestibulodynia can occur in patients with fibromyalgia (a reason it's discussed in Dr. Starlanyl book about fibromyalgia). Also, vestibulodynia is just a subcategory under vulvodynia just like vaginismus. These are both symptoms just like vulvodynia but doesn't tell you what's causing it. That's why it's important to find the cause first because if one jumps straight in to PT (if they do it) without knowing what is causing the problem first it can do more harm than good to the patient.
