Guest guest
My doctor wrote on my pts form neuropathic pain and vestibulitis, I have been reading about nerve damage, irritation causing muscle spasms, and am wondering if the pt is fruitless because of the apparent nerve damage I may have. Does anyone know if muscle spasms cause nerve pain? or do the nerves cause the muscles spasms? I am wondering if I should be taking something for nerve pain in addition to pt. Guest guest
I am in PT as well and take both Disipramine and Lyrica for the nerve pain. I just started with a new PT and she said I have the worst spasms she has seen but with some work I should be in less pain soon. Did your PT do an EMG reading on your pelvic floor? This is the first time I have had this done and it was very interesting. Ask your PT about nerve medication. She can't give you a perscription but she may suggest a medication. Guest guest
That is a very good question. I use the elavil but if I have nerve damage why would I even try the pt. A waste for me. Good point. Guest guest
Carolyn and : I took a post to my regular doctor that someone wrote who had nerve pain and let her read it. This is my nurse practioner at my regular doctors office. Not the specialist I see for vulvodynia. She said that what I was describing was NERVE PAIN and gave me a prescription for Tramadol. The Specialist at UT Southwestern would NOT give me one although the prior nurse practioner at UT who moved did. So now I have tramadol to use when I feel the nerve pain coming on and it helps me with flair ups. love and good luck, ML
Guest guest
I have a question, hate to just jump in, but I use elavil so I figured that I have nerve pain, but when my vulvodynia last flared up I had itching. Can nerve pain cause itching. Thanks, Millie RE: nerves/muscles Carolyn and : I took a post to my regular doctor that someone wrote who had nerve pain and let her read it. Guest guest
Lou, How are you doing now with your situation? Also, would you mind sharing with everyone what your symptoms were that led her to know it was nerve related? I would love to compare notes with you if you don't mind hon. Guest guest
No problem: here goes. I am doing fine. When I feel the pain in the vulvar area, it is like this is what happens first. AND I have to pay attention to notice because the two are entwined so to speak. Did you remember the email sent by a lady who called it her Excellent Adventure with PNE ?? She said it all sounded to Glib. She began her story with: " In April of 2004 " and went on to talk about what she said that anyone reading this part would already be comfortable with the words vagina, plevis, anus, tampon.. It was a three page print out of her story I took to my nurse practioner at my doctors office and gave it to her to read. Thinking maybe just maybe she would give me the Tramadol prescription. Anyway back to the lady and her story. She went and saw Dr. Weiss and got a nerve block into her pudendal nerve as a diagnostic tool. And she had relief from the pain. it was her piriformis muscle in her right butt! Well, back to me, I told my nurse prac that is what my PT (when I had fulltime employment and had my own insurance) said mine was: My piriformis muscle. So I explained to nurse prac and showed her where it hurt...not in the vulva, in my piriformis and how it ran down my leg. AND she came back with exact quote " what you are describing is nerve pain. I have no problem with giving you the prescription for Tramadol. The way you use it it will take you MONTHS to use it up. " Viola, I hope this ramblation of the story explains it. AND I deleted the email the lady sent as well as her email addy so I dont have it. Maybe whoever posted it can remember. hugs, ML Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. -- Psalm 71:18 <<<<<,,,, RE: nerves/muscles Lou, How are you doing now with your situation?
