Guest guest
I haven't found any mention of re-introducing salicylates back into the diet. If the diet works, then chances are very good that salicylates are your problem, and you will probably want to continue the diet for several months; for all I know, maybe even indefinitely. I would move very slowly and carefully in re-introducing any of the restricted foods, as the last thing you will need is another salicylate overload. I checked the salicylate diet section in the book " Dietary Management of Food Allergies and Intolerances " and came up with the following (note that some brands are mentioned that we in the US may not be familiar with, since this book is from Canada): In following the salicylate restricted diet, the following foods are ALLOWABLE. Anything not on the list should be avoided: MILK AND DAIRY: - plain milk, buttermilk, cream, sour cream, and yogurt - all plain uncolored cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, cottage cheese, Quark, parmesan - additive-free ice cream made with allowed ingredients -butter BREADS AND CEREALS - any pure flour or grain EXCEPT cornmeal - any prepared plain bread, buns, biscuits, izza dough with allowed ingredients - homemade or purchased baked cookies, pies, etc. made with allowed ingredients - prepared breakfast cereals with allowed ingredients - oats and oatmeal - Red River Cereal - plain oat bran - all plain grains and their flakes except cornmeal - plain crackers such as: Grissol Melba Toast RyVita Rye Krisp Wasa Light or Golden Crackers homemade crackers -plain pasta -all homemade crackers, cereals, and pasta dishes with allowed ingredients -plain and wild rice -Minute Rice VEGETABLES - bamboo shoots, canned - beans, fresh, green - brussels sprouts, fresh - carrots, fresh - cauliflower, fresh - celery, fresh - cabbage, red or green, fresh - corn, Niblets, canned - corn on the cob - leeks, fresh - lettuce - mushrooms, fresh - onions, fresh - peas, green, fresh - potato, white, peeled, fresh - pumpkin, fresh - shallots, fresh - spinach, frozen - tomato, fresh - turnip, fresh - watercress, fresh (note - I know that tomatoes contain some salicylates, and have read that cooking increases the salicylate content, so I imagine with most of these veggies, eating them raw would probably be better than cooked.) FRUIT - apple, golden delicious - banana, fresh - figs, fresh - figs, kadota, canned - lemon, fresh - mango, fresh - papaya, fresh - passion fruit, fresh - pear, Bartlett, canned - pear, Packham, peeled, fresh - pineapple juice - pomegranate, fresh - rhubarb, fresh MEAT, FISH, POULTRY - all pure, fresh, frozen or canned meat, poultry or fish - processed meat made with allowed ingredients (with meats, the main thing to watch out for is preparing them with spices, flavorings, or sauces that are restricted) EGGS - all (avoid preparing with restricted foods) LEGUMES - blackeye beans - brown beans - brown lentils -chickpeas (garbanzos) - green split peas - lima beans - mung beans - red lentils - soy beans - yellow split peas - pure, natural peanut butter NUTS AND SEEDS - brazil nuts, fresh - cashew nuts, fresh - coconut, dry, dessicated - hazelnuts, fresh - macadamia nuts, fresh - pecans, fresh - pine nuts, fresh - pistachios, fresh - poppy seed, dry - sesame seeds, dry - sunflower seeds, dry -walnuts, fresh (obviously these cannot be spiced or flavored with restricted ingredients) FATS & OILS - pure butter, cream, shortening - pure vegetable oils including canola, olive, sunflower, soy and peanut - homemade salad dressings with allowed ingredients - lard and meat drippings - homemade gravy with allowed ingredients FRESH HERBS & SEASONINGS - chili peppers, green, red, and yellow - fresh chives - fresh coriander leaves - fresh dill - fresh garlic - fresh ginger root - horseradish DRY HERBS & SPICES - allspice, dry powder - basil - bay leaf - caraway - cardamom, dry powder - chili powder and flakes - cloves, whole - fennel, dry powder - nutmeg, dry powder - paprika, sweet, dry powder - pepper, black and white, dry powder - saffron SWEETS & SWEETENERS - sugar, molasses - maple syrup, corn syrup - icing sugar - pure jams, jellies, marmalades and conserves made with allowed fruit without added color or flavor - plain artificial sweeteners - homemade sweets with allowed ingredients OTHER - baking powder - baking soda - cream of tartar - distilled white vinegar - malt vinegar - baking chocolate - pure cocoa - plain gelatin - pure vanilla extract - relishes with allowed ingredients - black and green olives - pure soy sauce made with allowed ingredients - Vegemite and Marmite BEVERAGES - plain and carbonated mineral water - plain coffee - Ovaltine powder - Tetley tea - Twinings teas: Lemon scented, Irish Breakfast, English Breakfast, Orange Pekoe - Indian/Burmese green tea - Jasmine tea - Rosehip herbal tea - Chamomile herbal tea - Alcohol: sherry, dry vermouth, Hennessey , Smirnoff Vodka, nie Whiskey, Gilbey's Gin _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
Jackie I am so confused! Your diet had a lot of things on it that I wrote down as no-nos. I can't believe any kind of tomato is on it, and olive oil, as well as chili peppers and tea? I give up - it's kind of like the proverbial " everything is bad for you " - just live a little and enjoy! Actually the diet I have been following is probably a little more conservative, so I guess one just has to use some common sense.
