Pete;

     In my previous post, where I referred to Albert Ellis, you went to con=

siderable effort to discredit him, not by attacking his methods, but his per=

sonality mostly.

     If you have something against Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, REBT=

,I'd like to hear it.

     First, I'll explain my understanding of it,and how it helped me to con=

quer my alcoholism.

     REBT, the R is simply learning to think rationally. Example; " Once an =

alcoholic, always an alcoholic " , is simply irrational.

     The E is Emotive,or emotions. If one believes the irrational thought a=

bove,they will always FEEL like an alcoholic.

     The B is Behaviour. If one feels like an alcoholic,one is more likely =

to ACT like an alcoholic.

     The T is Therapy.In this case, the therapy is learning to sort out the=

irrational junk that one is bombarded with all the time, like: " Recovery is=

a lifetime business " , " Alcoholism is a disease " , " You can't do it by yourse=

lf " , and the classic: " We admit we are powerless over alcohol, and our lives=

have become unmanageable "

     If one believes all this irrational junk, they will be sucked into a l=

ifetime of recovery meetings, and will never feel like they have put a big p=

roblem behind them.

     Most importantly, substituting the rational for the irrational, allows=

one to get started in planning for and managing their own recovery and sobr=

iety. REBT is merely a means of regaining control of ones life by purging al=

l the old, invalid beliefs.

     I Have been able to completely turn my life around by simple getting r=

id of my old beliefs, and turning around not only my alcoholism, but my whol=

e general attitude toward life.

      You see, simply by getting rid of the " powerless belief " , and substit=

uting the rational thought that " I am in full control of what my body does. " =

I was able to begin the process of strengthening my mind to overcome a long=

-term addiction.

Now, if you have any problems with this process of rational thinking, I=

'd like to know specifically what they are.

Thank you;

L. Hobbs
