Guest guest
My results with amitriptyline (elavil) were nearly miraculous. Very fast response – within one to two days I was at least 70% better. Within a week, the pain was completely gone. I’m sure it’s been previously been mentioned on the list, but if you ever decide to go off of elavil, be sure to step your way down – don’t abrubtly discontinue. The abrubt withdrawal symptoms are quite unpleasant – big time nausea, headaches, dizziness, etc. Steph
Guest guest
I tried nor-triptyline. I started at 2mgs. I was a total zombie. Even after 2 weeks. I tried to up it to 4mgs and I could barely function. I'm currently on doxepin. I'm trying to get to 30mgs but my memory started being affected again at 29.4mgs. I had stopped increasing the dose at 20mgs because of that, but my body slowly adapted to the dose and the memory problem cleared. It still makes me tired at night and a little sleepy in the morning. I also think it's making it hard for me to lose the weight I gained from sitting on the couch and not moving for most of 6 months. At least it seems to be working. While on it, I've gone for a 3-5 daily irritation level to currently under 1 for most of the time. Though I still can't have piv and can only ride my bike with a funky saddle for about 16miles. Guest guest
My experience with elavil was that the sedation improved, but it took ike a couple months. It's interesting to me... Elavil seems to be vulvar docs' first choice and it was ultimately the one that worked best for me (I took elavil, imipramine, desipramine, nortriptyline-- at different times, of course!). But the doc who did my surgery (Dr. ) says he gets the best results with desipramine. I tried it and it didn't work for me, but it was not sedating AT ALL. It's really a much better drug in terms of side effects. I did correspond with one woman years ago whose pain was treated really well by desipramine. You don't hear much about it on these lists, though. I've also heard some docs say that the tricyclics are very individual in terms of who responds to which. So if elavil/nortriptyline (they're sister drugs) are really unbearable for you, I would definitely try imipramine or desipramine--sister drugs that are less sedating. Lia > > I tried nor-triptyline.
