Guest guest
Ok, someone has got to help me figure this one out. When I get pain which seems to be coming from PN, I take a lorazepam and I get instant relief. I am on elavil (4 days only) and noticed that it does not work like the lorazepam and I am wondering why, since I know it helps control spasms and helps the nerves. What is different in lorazepam that is not in the elavil. I told my gyne how wonderfully the lorazepam works for me and he said that the elavil should do the same thing, Im not so sure. Its odd, because after I take the lorazepam, and touch the muscle area between my leg and vagina, that is almost always in pain, there is no pain. I am baffled with this. Can anyone answer? Guest guest
Lorazepam is a drug that can lead to addiction. Maybe your symptoms are due to Lorazepam withdrawal. When you take one, the symptom disappears. That would make me suspicious. Ora >Ok, someone has got to help me figure this one out. Guest guest
Do you take the lorazepam on a regular basis or intermitently? I believe it is supposed to be taken regularly. Have you looked it up or read the instructions for its use? Guest guest
Ora, Could point about the potential for this medication to be addictive because it is a barbituate like Valium. Also, good thought about the instructions. Carol, what is the direction given by the doctor for this Lorazepam? Guest guest
Being anxious about something (anything) can cause the muscles to spasm too if one has a huge problem with anxiety. Have you been diagnosed with a condition called Generalized Anxiety Disorder? The reason I ask is because of needing the medication. Guest guest
I have always been type A worrier personality, this burning etc has caused me to become more anxious and stressed. I am trying not to use the lorazepam because I know its addictive. Since this all started though, I have had problems sleeping and with pain, and the lorazepam does seem to help alot. But I know long term I can't use it, yesterday I just took half and will do so for about 5 days, then stop-atleast thats the plan.Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL.com. Guest guest
Lorazepam and Elavil are totally different drugs. Lorazepam works fairly quickly, within an hour I think. Elavil takes WEEKS to reach a blood level at which you may have positive effects. You may have side effects sooner, but these drugs (tricyclics) aren't expected to relieve pain or depression for weeks. They take time to build up in your bloodstream. You are not experiencing withdrawal! Unlike elavil which reaches a steady state in your bloodstream and is there all the time, lorazepam is active in your body for only a limited amount of time, then it's gone. Like aspirin. My pt just suggested I get a prescription for lorazepam, actually. She says it relaxes muscles and make tratments like skin rolling (which is pretty painful) more bearable so you can accomplish more. Guest guest
Carol, Ask your doctor about a muscle relaxer like Skelaxin (the thing I like about it is that it doesn't make me sleepy). Muscle relaxers are also used for treating fibromyalgia because spasm can be a big part of the problem as well especially for those who have tried PT but had the problem become worse. Yep, for some with fibromyalgia the pelvic floor muscles can spasm and if it is true what that doctor said about my pelvic floor muscles spasming it's because I have fibromyalgia. I did notice something today when I had to wash my hair and that was that when I had to step out of the shower for a few minutes (and yes I turned off the water) to get on the toilet to go to the bathroom my muscles in that area were very relaxed. It help me to understand further why Dr. Goldstein mentioned in that article that you sent about the warm baths. So I may try to get back to doing my sitz baths for that area but in the tub to try and shrink that hemorrhoid to help some of the pain I have in that area if it's adding to my already existing pain there because of my vulvodynia and other female problems. But any way, please ask your doctor about a muscle relaxer that could help some of this. Also, please discuss with them the anxiety making you stressed out to see what else can be done to help the anxiety til you can get an answer to this pain.
