Guest guest
Hi, I am new to the group. I will have 15 years of sobriety in Feb. I am also a non-practicing certified A&D counselor. I " left " AA about 3 or 4 years ago. I didnt even realize I was leaving, but I did. Just kind of phased out. At first I thought it was because I had moved to another state & the meeting just weren't the same. I had a hard time finding a sponsor & the meetings really did suck! Well, I soon realized that even though the " J " word wasnt said too often in meetings (not that it was never said, it was) that the influence was there. That the " spiritual " program I was believing in was actually based on Christian ideals. Well, I wont get onto a soap box about that, but I am definitely not a Christian. I have a story now similar to one posted on this list today. I started looking at some web pages & became intrigued about the argument that AA was a therapy cult of some sort. I came about this info from a anti-12-step coercion list. And frankly, I thought you all were a bunch of people who just didnt want to stop drinking so you were trying to bad-mouth AA. Well, I have found some really great sites. Well researched information written by very intelligent and insightful people. So I decided to join this list & see what it was like. I am glad I did. I am glad that there are people like me. Who can leave AA & not end up " dead or locked up " ! Because honestly, that is what I feared would happen....brain-washed!!!! Anyway, that is a bit about me. Thanks Donna
