She thought the baby was sucking so hard there was no blood getting to my nipple. Believe me, I felt it. It felt like shards of glass were in my baby's mouth. It was the most horrible, awful, drawn-out experience of having my newborns (and I had 24 hr. labor and 2 c-sections, no food for 60 hours, a catheter in for 48 hours) and made me feel emotionally like I was a terrible mother and inadequate woman (not that I needed any help with all my V issues). Double-pumped all day long like a cow, shed millions of tears, and lived in miserable pain just from shower water, sheets, or someone at church giving me a hug. Sorry to be so bitter! But it was rough. Becky Becky, I actually felt a little relieved when I read your post, because I realize I'm not the only one who had so much trouble trying to nurse. My left nipple 'elongated' so badly when I'd pump I looked like a freak...it tripped me and my husband out. It went back to normal, but during that time it was like, "what in the world is going on?" I think another hard thing was when I'd mention to other moms who nursed about how bad it hurt, they'd make comments like, "my nipples got sore too"...but implied..."but I stuck it out"....well, it's one thing to have sore nipples, it's quite another to have them cracked & bleeding with pink breastmilk! I'm not sure if this helps, Becky, but I can so relate to the pain you described.... Hugs, Chelle

We FEEL more there. Why couldn't that be the case in our nipples, as well? Becky, that is a really, really good point and something I never thought of before. Maybe you should consider doing a poll on it. Would be interesting to see if women who have v.pain also have had 'more' trouble with nursing due to nipple pain...though I'm not sure how 'scientific' our data would be... *grin* >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I just read over my breastfeeding vent and whew! I sure was in a mood about THAT apparently. I'm sorry for how that came out so completely negative. I'm not usually like that, but I guess it stirred up some deeply buried emotions there. Becky No need to apologize....I can totally relate to your feelings because it was a painful and hard experience for me, too. If it's not been painful or you've not been there, done that, then it might be hard to understand. I will always wish it had worked out for my kids...*sigh*. Anyway, if you have anymore kids, I hope all goes well for you. Hugs, Chelle
