Guest guest
Hi Jen, I have been going to ACOA meetings for several months now and I really like them. I was also in AlAnon for several years awhile back and found it helpful but like you did not find enough people who had parents who were the alcoholics. The focus was on children and spouses. Being raised by an alcoholic parent is different and brings up a whole other set of issues. The focus in ACOA is on healing yourself and overcoming all the damage done by a dysfunctional/abusive childhood. I do the phone meetings all the time and they are great. You can go on the ACOA website and get the phone meeting number and times. There are around 5 phone meetings every day of the week. I have learned so much from the meetings and the folks there know exactly what you are going thru. I have heard several speak of mothers who were not only alcoholic but also had PDs. You will feel at home and understood. You can also order the ACOA literature on their website, they call it the big red book, it is excellent and I highly recommend it. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I second the big red book being amazing. I've got a sticky note on probably every third page. > > Hi Jen, > > > > I have been going to ACOA meetings for several months now and I really like > them.
