Eva, Hi! I just wanted to comment that I too was on Elavil...but am off itnow...trying to get pregnant with baby #2. I was diagnosed when baby #1 was 2. I DID gain 20 lbs with Elavil...I was lightheaded when getting up from a seated or squated position...and it made me drowsy in the mornings. I took 10mg at bedtime every night for almost 6 months. It does help you sleep....just take it early enough. I am lucky because I work PT nights 5-9 M-F generally and took it when I got home and if I was a little drowsy I knew I didnt not to make morning plans. The side effects do get easier as you are taking the Elavil. I am off it now and would definitely go back on it and may even increase my dosage nexttime...it does take 4-6 weeks to get thru your system and take your time slowly increasing the dosage

amount. Hope this helps..even just a little! DebbieEva wrote: So, I'm finally going to a specialist (and starting pt soon), and my doctor prescribed me elavil. And I'm scared witless at this point from reading all the negative reviews and horrible side effects. Aside from the quality of life issue presented by the vestibulitis, I like my life (and my mind) as it is right now, and I can't afford to have it that horrendously interrupted by what I'm seeing

described here as disastrous side effects. So, um, did anyone take Elavil and NOT feel permanently unconscious/become 15 pounds heavier/retain urine/etc/etc/etc?

Thanks to everyone for the replies! I'm still nervous about it, but a bit more

hopeful...I

started my first last night (25 mg, I believe). I woke up once during the night

to go to the

bathroom and was definitely very groggy, but when I woke up this morning I felt

normal,

except for a dry mouth that went away after eating and drinking.

Here's hoping the side effects stay this way, I guess! If they do, I should be

fine.
