Guest guest
--- Reality TV To: wtoadultchildren1 CC: Does anyone watch the real housewives shows on bravo? If so, am I the only one who thinks Theresa from NJ exhibits borderline traits? People mock reality TV but maybe it will be the medium that makes personality disorders public enough to start a constructive conversation on a large scale. Ramona in NY talks openly of having had a verbally abusive father and her social interactions/emotional development are clearly stunted from the trauma. zeta-jones' publicizing her bipolar disorder was a nice start, but, in my opinion, bipolar has been part of public awareness for some time. Even police departments are trained to recognize traits as we learned when my cousin was detained instead of arrested 20 years ago. Many of us know the claims that Baldwin is a borderline. I don't know if the voice mail he left his daughter was the original catalyst for the claims, but it's what I suggest people reference when they ask for examples of nada behavior. Anyone have thoughts/want to contribute to this discussion ?
Guest guest
Good points on the reality TV. I admit it, yes I too watch the Real Housewives. It's like a trainwreck and I just can't look away haha. But yes, Ramona, Nene and Theresa all seem to have some kind of undiagnosed mental problems happening. Throw in a smattering of low self-esteem, a lot of money, some cameras and BAM! You've got trash TV!! This is the next phase spawned from Jerry Springer-type programming. Although I do think you're right in that it is highlighting mental disorder. A lot of people still don't seem to realize that when people behave like this that it's not necessarily drama queens but actual mental problems instead. Bethenny seems to have a NPD father and I believe she is a KO. Her therapy sessions are interesting to me and I feel immensely sorry for her as I can relate to her pain. Her anxiety and control problems are painfully obvious. Anybody else care to come out of the Real Housewives closet?? LOL
Guest guest
So many of us read posts on this site and have incredible moments of omg I can't believe people have had EXACT same experience. The flip side is the uncanny ignorance I feel when you all talk about npd. Worse,I feel ashamed and embarrassed for any complaining I've ever done in life about nada when I read that many of you have had a fada, too. Am apologizing for this ignorance and, honestly, inability to truly empathize like I can over nada topics. How is it that bpd and npd can be so intertwined for some and like 2 different languages for others? Or, do I just not see nada's npd traits in her bpd? Certainly the reality TV topic was not brought up to start a silly thread for show-watchers. That someone is able to recognize that a public figure appears to be KO of an npd, for example, makes me realize my tunnel vision in life. Just want to thank you all for being here...this msg board is better than any therapy I've had and A LOT CHEAPER! Hellfireblonde hellfireblonde99@...> wrote: >Good points on the reality TV. Guest guest
I don't watch it...but I can promise you much of it is scripted. A nanny friend of mine has been present for many tapings and tells a hilarious story of some " fight " on the show wherein one person stormed out of a room and how it got done over and over until the camera shot was right and it was dramatic enough. Which makes me wonder if the characters are that unbalanced or if the problem is with the writers! Guest guest
I'm brand new to this group and literally had to lol when I read this post. Last night I had a conversation with my cousin about how as much as I (hangs head in shame) love watching the Real Housewives of all cities , I was having a hard time watching New Jersey because Theresa reminded me so much of my BPD mom. Literally watching her interact with the others makes me feel like I'm in a circular projection laden conversation with my mom. I very recently discovered that my mom has BPD after going to Therapy to figure out how to deal with her. Now, I feel like I can pick a BPD out of a crowd... > > > > --- Reality TV > From: Nightsquirrel > To: wtoadultchildren1 > CC: > > Does anyone watch the real housewives shows on bravo?
