Guest guest
Hi everyone, I saw Dr. Levey at the NY Pelvic Pain Center yesterday, and it was a very good experience. He seems very knowledgeable and forward- thinking, and was willing to bend his treatment plan based on what I thought would help me. Question, anyone out there use Neurontin topically? Hs seems to think I have a nerve thing going on, as opposed to a hormonal one. Lidocaine -- this is mixed in with the Neurontin. I am very aprehensive about using Lidocaine as I am not a fan of feeling 'numb'. What have some of your experiences been like? I recommend Dr. Levey to anyone in the NYC area, as he takes medical insurance, and seems to really know his stuff. Thanks, Emma
Guest guest
Emma: I have experimented with a topical Lidocaine to be used just during intercourse. It did help somewhat. It's a product called " stay hard " that I bought at one of those sex shops, it's meant for men who have a problem with premature ejaculation. I gave it a shot anyway, it's probably safer than anbesol, which is made for the mouth...another mucous membrane. If your doctor prescribed it, then is it going to be used every day, long term? I would just google it and read all you can about it until you feel comfy with it. Hope it helps you! Good luck. Guest guest
Emma, I too have a nerve problem and have lidocaine on hand just in case I need it. I don't think it really made me feel numb, it just kind of dulled my pain. The topical neurontin is interesting, i may have to suggest that...although I have clitoral pain and it's kind of hard to use topical stuff. I have been getting pudendal nerve blocks up in new hampshire with dr. quesada and am also seeing dr. conway about pudendal neuralgia. my personal experience is that the lidocaine doesn't make you feel, like say numb when you go get dental work done...it's used on just the spots you have pain and just kind of dulls the surface. Guest guest
Hi Emma,I have been using Neuronton*(Gabepentin) Mixed with Amitriptilyne topically for about weeks . While I still have pain, I have more days without pain than with since I have been taking it. I use lidocaine only when my pain is really bad on the vulva and can't take it. I agree that it doesn't get rid of the pain it just numbs it. Calendula cream is quite nice as well. I recommend that you try it since it can't hurt it anymore! Emma, I too have a nerve problem and have lidocaine on hand just in case I need it. I don't think it really made me feel numb, it just kind of dulled my pain. Guest guest
Emma, I used lidocaine 4x/day for 9 months...it didn't help but it didn't hurt. I would encourage people to at least give it a try. =) Melinda
Guest guest
I use a topical compound with Lidocane and Neurontin (as well as amitriptoline and ketoprofen and a couple other things) in it for chronic neck pain and it really does help. I never used it for VVS, but I imagine it would be as helpful. My only conciern would be getting it on the clitoris (and making it difficult to acheve orgasm), and using it as the only treatment. For example the doctor who is treating my neck pain is also givnig me PT and injections and not just giving me an anesthetic to mask the pain.
