The Metrogel works, but then it comes back and it's very expensive (my hubby and I are both self-employed so our health insurance isn't so great.) I don't think I've tried penicillin....I've tried so many things I can't even remember now. My latest doctor is also saying contact dermatitis, so I will take "mladamsgte"'s advice and wash my undies separate and take some espom salt baths. I recently started using dye and perfume free detergent (for environmental reasons - unnecessary chemicals!) and the doc told me to stop using soap to clean down there and just use water (seems gross, but I read on the Mayo Clinic website that that is a valid treatment) so I'm doing that now too. No more baby wipes either, so now I just go through a lot of washcloths keeping myself fresh. ;-)

"mladamsgte"- what is A & D ointment?

Hi:

Are you sure they are treating the strep B with Metrogel? That is usually for bacterial vaginosis. Have they cultured you? I get BV often and from the antibiotics used to treat BV have gotten yeast and chronic strep B. I'm REALLY surprised pennicilan wasn't mentioned for strep B.

I don't remember your symptoms. Burning or pain on contact? I have the constant burning. Worse with an infection.

Cindy, you and I sound like two peas in a pod.

I agree with you on the "just use water" thing. It grosses me out but they say soap can make it worse.

Hey Sherri

Sorry I've been out of touch - out of town for Christmas. 2 years ago when this first started they cultured Strep B. We tried a couple of things, but then landed on the Metrogel to balance out the bacteria (kept flipping between Strep B and yeast). No burning or pain, just itching. At first, the itching was inside the flaps of skin and stopped at the hairline. Now, it's entirely in the hairline and not in the flaps of skin. So, I guess that's why this new guy is thinking dermatitis....

Ivy, I've just done my first load of "undies only" laundry in HOT water (included the washcloths I now use to freshen myself instead of the babywipes) and plan on taking some epsom salt baths when I get a moment....

Does anyone know if the keifer drinks at the grocery store are effective or just a sugary concoction like the yogurt drinks?

Cindy,

Kefir drinks vary widely in quality. Helios is a good brand, I believe

they were recently bought out and I'm not sure of the new name? Many of

my friends in another group buy raw milk and kefir it themselves with

packets of starter bacteria.

I don't know about the kefir, but I take two different probiotics (one pearl coated and one in regular capsule form) plus cultured veggies each day (http://www.culturedvegetables.com/) as a way of getting more probiotics and vegetables. I won't lie, they're not exactly delicous, but my digestion has been awesome since I started them. L

Thanks for the info on the culutred veggies, Lindsey. I checked out the website and couldn't find what the process is for "culturing" them... Are they very vinegar-y? I don't much like vinegar, so if it's just veggies with a bunch of vinegar (like Kimchee), then I won't eat them... I won't even eat store-bought macaroni salads and stuff like that because of the vinegar.

There's no vinegar but they're very similar to sauerkraut or kimchee.

Quite honestly, I don't care for them. But I've felt awesome on them

so it's worth it to me to have a few forkfuls with each meal as a way

of adding healthy cultures to my diet without the sugar and dairy that

goes along with yogurt. I do take probiotics but it was suggested to

me by my NP to get " as many different types " of probiotics as possible,

so this seems to be a good way along with adding extra vegetables.

Thanks Lindsey - if a few forkfuls will make a difference, I can manage that.... Thanks for sharing the info - it'll be one of my many NY Resolutions - eat cultured veggies! ;-)

Happy New Year, everyone!
