Guest guest
Melinda, Not everyone with PCOS will have weight issues or acne showing. Irregular bleeding can be a symptom of PCOS as well as fibroids, and polyps. I had a polyp removed from the top of my cervix back in 1999. Guest guest
Kristy, Is there some kind of test for PCOS? I'm assuming the doctors will order some kind of scan or ultrasound to look for polyps and/or fibroids...I just don't know what to expect. Thanks for responding. =) Melinda
Guest guest
Melinda: I read your post. i really had never had experience like yours. We are all different tho. I did have FIBROIDS and my periods were just awful. Rest easy. Ninety eight per cent of what we worry about never happens according to statistics. Happy New Year. ml Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Guest guest
I'm not Kristy but I was screened for PCOS. Good docs will check blood levels of hormones, check your glucose and insulin resistance levels, and also check your ovaries for cysts. This is especially important if you don't have the outward appearances of PCOS (overweight, acne, hair growing on face). I was told I was " lean PCOS " and I didn't have acne or hair growth. PCOS is a syndrome that is usually a diagnosis of exclusion. I was mis-diagnosed with PCOS-the only symptom I had was amenorrhea. My glucose, IR, and hormones were within normal levels. Without checking my ovaries (which would've confirmed or denied things) I was put onto metformin. I finally saw an out-of-network specialist who did an ultrasound on my ovaries and they were fine-no hints of any cysts whatsoever. He thinks that I had amenorrhea because I had recently gone off the pill after being on it for almost 10 years. I just ovulated after being off the metformin for a few weeks, so I think he's right. Google PCOS symptoms to find out what you need to know. Take care, Lindsey
Guest guest
Lindsey, Thanks for your thoughts...I just don't want to get told PCOS because the doctors can't figure out what's really wrong. =) I mean, if that's it, then fine - but I've had too many physicians tell me I had things that just weren't accurate because they didn't know what was wrong and were too arrogant to say that they didn't know. Guest guest
I kind of think that's what they did to me with PCOS, too. I mean, on one hand I was glad they went out on a limb and rx'd metformin because if there was some sort of subclinical insulin resistance going on then I wanted to address it before it got out of control. On the other hand, if they had been a bit more thorough in their diagnosis (ie- ordered the more in-depth blood tests plus an ultrasound) they would've known that the ONLY symptom I had was amenorrhea, which can be a lot of different things. Guest guest
You must see a doctor. We are not educated to diagnose why spotting is occurring in you for so long a time. This could be anything from a very dangerous condition for you to nothing at all -b ut do not rely on other women for an answer to this - see the doc.Dustyspanishmiss430 wrote: This may be slightly off topic but is related and I need help. =) I may post to my other groups so sorry if you read this twice...Since I went off the pill 2 years ago, my cycles have been irregular. But over the past year they've been increasingly erractic, leading me to think I have hormonal issues (they range from 15-60 days with periods of 3-14 days, with spotting all the time, randomly). SO on top of that, in October, when we started having intercourse again, I began spotting alot right after intercourse, every time. This leads me to think there's also an anatomical issue. Any thoughts? Could this be fibroids or polyps being disturbed by intercourse? There's no pain but it's still scary. I have appointments with my OB/GYN and an endocrinologist in January...my vulvar specialist says this has nothing to do with my LP or VV, and told me to go to them. I just need ideas of what this might be, or if anyone has had similar experiences. I'm only 26, by the way, so there shouldn't be peri-menopause issues. Someone suggested PCOS, but I'm at a great weight, no acne or hair where there shouldn't be...argh. Just looking for reassurance that I don't have some horrible uterine or vaginal bleeding cancer!
