Hi J,

Welcome back to Michigan! I used to see Dr. Haefner and staff at the vulva clinic, but did not have much success. I have been seeing Dr. Sobel since July 2006, he is wonderful. I now have my LS and LP under control with an occasional flare up here and there. I don't know what your ailments are ... but I would try him again. He is very compassionate and understanding.

Is Dr. Sobel still downtown? He once said to me, "you don't have to come to this office", but I was working downtown at the time, so it was just easier. I never asked what the other option might be. Is Debbie still his assistant?

Dr. Sobel was very nice, but he kept telling me I was fine and if certain foods seemed to cause the problem, just not to eat them. He never tried to help me get any deeper. When I told him that when I'd get the vaginal pain, my throat would also hurt - he looked at me like I was crazy - just like the other doctors.

When I got to New York, a regular ob/gyn asked if I had allergies, because the chronic inflammation would have to be an infection or an allergic reaction and there was no infection. We were able to connect the exact time I went off allergy meds (the kind I used were taken off the market) to when the problems started. Thus the connection to the sore throat. I just haven't been able to find an allergy med I can tolerate, thats strong enough. I also haven't been as careful about the food, as I was in Michigan.

The dust and dirt in NY seem to have heightened the problem. Its a part of why I'm leaving.

A doctor here did genetic testing and found that I have 2 gene polymorphisms - one that can't fight inflammation and the other that can't fight infection (fortunately we have other things that do that!). The only option he had were shots that cost $1700 a month and were not covered by insurance. Or Celebrex - which I'm allergic to. So I have to do something to kill the source of the inflammation, since my body can't fight it.

Maybe all this new information will help Dr. Sobel, but he never explored any of those things. That's why I was thinking Dr. Haefner.

I don't know what to do........

I know your question was relayed to , but yes, Dr. Sobel is downtown at the Detroit Medical Center. I'd call now to try to get an appointment, unless you're still considered a patient because his new patient wait time is around 6 months.JSyun4505@... wrote: , Is Dr. Sobel still downtown? I’m

curious – what was the gene polymorphism associated with the inability to

fight inflammation? I have significant issues with inflammation that have

baffled all of my medical providers.

My inflammation markers are over the mountain and

maybe I should be tested. Does anybody have any link

for the information that I could take to my doc--like

which tests, etc.?

J,

Yes, Dr. Sobel is still downtown, and Debbie is still his assistant.

From my experience with both Doctors, Dr. Sobel is more thorough and did more testing with me than Dr. Haefner ever did. Dr. Haefner is a vulvar specialist, while Dr. Sobel specializes in infectious diseases. I think he would be facinated with your new information. He loves a challenge. He told me I kept him awake at night, he was puzzled by my condition. Within ten months of my first visit I was 95% better. I saw Dr. Haefner for over three years and I only had about a 25% improvement.
