Guest guest
EstrogenWomen have been told for decades that hormone therapy will help keep their bonesstrong and their hearts healthy. Now they say, "Oops, we were wrong." Estrogenactually comes from horses' urine. The drug is called Premarin ( pre mar in )whichmeans pregnant mares' urine. They don't allow the horses to drink too much so theurine will be strong.A Swedish study on Hormone Replacement Therapy was halted on December 17, 2003because the number of women who received HRT and experienced new or recurringcancer was deemed unacceptable. In 1997 McPherson and Hemminki published an analysis of 23 trials of HRT. Theirstudies showed a 78% increased risk of heart disease with the use of HRT.Premarin (HRT) has also been linked to Ovarian Cancer, Lupus, Scleroderma, gallbladder cancer and stroke. However, there are natural hormonesavailable without the side effects of Premarin. They are compounded by Women's International. Their sources of natural estrogen andprogesterone are soy and yam which are then modified to be human or biologicallyidentical. In the fall of 2005 Wyeth Pharmaceutical, the manufacturer of Premarin and Premprofiled a "citizen complaint" with the FDA, asking the agency to deny consumers accessto compounded bioidentical hormones. The obvious unstated reason is that in threeyears their sales have fallen by 57%. In 2002, the massive Women's Health Inititivestudy demonstrated that Premarin increased the risk of stroke while Prempro not onlyincreased the risk of stroke but also increased the risk of breast cancer, heart attacks, and blood clots. However, these side effects are not present with the bioidenticalhormones compounded by Women's International because they are not foreign to thebody.Weyth Pharmaceutical was stopped in its attempt to outlaw bioidential hormonesbecause the FDA received thousands of e-mails and letters asking that Women'sInternational be allowed to continue making safe hormones. Then in 2007 Senators Kennedy, Burr and drafted the so-called Safe DrugCompounding Act of 2007 that would severely restrict and deny your access to allcritical compounded medications. Millions of people have their medicationscompounded because the one-size-fits-all drug company products do not meet theircritical needs. If this legislation passed, federal regulators (not your healthcarepractitioner) would decide what medication you can use! However, again, thousands of e-mails and letters to the Senators stopped the bill. Butdo not be complacent. They will most assuredly try again because the PharmaceuticalCompanies do not want the competition. The FDA would have outlawed the safe hormones only because they are a threat to thePharmaceutical Companies. Just remember that they have not stopped Weyth fromproducing Premarin or Prempo even though they have been proven unsafe. Why?Could it be because the Pharmaceutical Companies pay 55% of the salaries of the FDAemployees? Or, that many FDA employees own stocks in the PharmaceuticalCompanies? In addition, when the top people in the FDA retire they receive highpaying positions in the Pharmaceutical Companies. Is there a conflict of interest here?So if you need hormones be sure to use those that are natural and made biologicallyidentical. That also goes for thyroid medication. The drugs Levothroid, Synthroid,Levoxyl, and Levo-T all destroy the thyroid. So it stands to reason that it is best to usethe ones your body accepts as its own. To obtain the natural hormones you must firsthave a prescription written up by a doctor.
