I switched to all boy short undies (all cotton) with no elastic in the legs (advice from Rhonda Kotarinos - Pelvic Floor Dysfunction PT in the Chicago area). I would avoid using soap directly on the vulvar area. If you must use some, buy something pure and with as few ingredients and all natural if possible. Guest guest
I would also add, wash your underwear in an unscented mild soap and do not use softeners or dryer sheets. Also don't mix socks and underwear in the washer. That has helped me a lot. Guest guest
Melisa, I really like Hanes Perfect Panty boyshorts - they are sort of chiffon microfiber. I like them better than cotton because they wick moisture away and keep me dry. My PT also recommended the boy short style to keep a panty line from cutting into my leg crease muscles. I use all natural soaps from the health food store. I hand wash all my underwear with just a little bit of the gentle all natural soap and have no problem. Guest guest
tmb9717 wrote: What type of underwear is best to wear and soap used for cleaning I have to say that, based on advice from my doc, I switched to cotton boxer shorts 4 years ago. They make a huge difference – plus it’s fun to wear Scooby Doo boxers. J When I wear pants that show pants lines, I wear “boy shorts”. But those are borderline for me – I experience some discomfort and by the time I get home from work, I immediately change to boxers. I don’t go sans underwear because the seams on my pants rub and chafe. I use unscented detergent. I also use unscented “Bounce” dryer sheets without any problem. Guest guest
I'm seeing Rhonda too and she told me to stop wearing underwear or wear boy shorts. Well, I just stopped wearing underwear and within a week, my VV stopped hurting!!! I could push as hard as I wanted, and there was no pain to a max of .5 (on a 10 pt scale)! I am so happy about that. It doesn't feel amazing to rub under my butt anymore, but that's okay. I just have to work on the perineum pain now (from childbirth). Try it. It could help immensely. in IL
Guest guest
My doctor advised to wear cotton underwear and also if at all possible do not wear panty hose, try thigh highs. Nylon traps air from recycling through. Guest guest
I buy my underwear at Old Navy. They are 100% cotton and very comfortable. They have different types to choose from. They are in the plastic package and usually hanging up at the end of the isles. Mindy>> Melisa: where do you buy them? thanks. Guest guest
I get the Hanes perfect panties at Target. Hanes also just came out with new, really comfy organic cotton undies that I like as well. Melinda
