Going into Thanksgiving

Hi everybody, I've been away for a while and just wanted to check in and " remind

myself " of how to enjoy my Thanksgiving. I'm speaking for myself, but if you can

benefit from these guidelines, take anything you like and run with it.

1. Thanksgiving is for everyone to enjoy. That means me too. If I'm not making

sure my own Thanksgiving is enjoyable, I'm not living up to the spirit of the

day.

2. I'm showing up with the turkey and stuffing, it's other peoples'

responsibility to show up with what they volunteered to do. How they do it is

their business. It's not my place to get hoovered into managing their tasks.

3. I already know the risks of the day, and have taken every precaution possible

to minimize exposure to toxic conversations/people. If it means arriving late,

leaving early, or excusing myself for a while to make a call in a private space

as a " time out " I'm doing it.

4. There isn't a single person on this earth that I " have " to talk to or see

this Thanksgiving. This year, I'm walking that walk.

5. This year, on this day of thanks, I'm going to focus on what I DO have:

health, enough work to put food on the table, a friend or two I can really count

on, service people who come through and never let me down, a reliable car,

healthy animals and on and on and so much more.

6. Things I'm NOT going to think about on this day of thanks: dysfunction, what

I'm missing from life or family, negativity, worry, stress, unpleasantness. All

of that will be waiting the day after Thanksgiving. But for that one day, I can

refuse to dwell on any of it.

Well, that's about it. Thanks for reading. I'm very grateful for this group and

a place to post. You are all on my Thanksgiving list to be thankful for too!

Love,

AFB
