old-new in the VVS business

Hello,

I'm new on the block, so I'll start with the question I've got, and

then you can read my life story if you want.

Right now I need to decide if to go through with Multilevel Nerve

Block injections for VVS, as you may have read of in the recent NVA

newsletter article.

Anyone did it? Heard of it? Of any complications?

The doctor is Mcdonald, and he says he's been doing this for 20

years on hundreds of patients. But I guess a formal study just came

out now for the first time...

Now to my pretty sad story:

I have Primary Vestibulitis. It's been about 10 years now. :-(

I'm 27 and otherwise happily married, but had full intercourse only a

couple of times in my entire life. You can imagine this situation

doesn't help... Until recently I only experienced pain during

(attempts of) intercourse, but a couple of years ago I was also

diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis (spelling?), and I also tend to feel

general discomfort down there, even though it's not too bad (yet). I

guess years of neglect take their toll...

At first I thought I was crazy and didn't go to any doctor. Then the

doctors had no clue what I had. Then they called it Vaginismus (my

muscles are so so tight!!!), but they had no clue waht to do about it.

One visit my doctor said he suspects Vestibulitis. I guess he just

heard of it for the first time then. I started PT for bio-feedback

until I couldn't afford it anymore. It helped a bit (from not being

able to get q-tip in I got to a medium-size dilator) but not too much.

Didn't want to do Vestibuloctomy, felt paralyzed and helpless, so did

nothing. Then came depression, and I was not doing anything with my

life for a couple of years.

Thank god, I'm better now - depression is under control, and I

recently moved to LA. With new energies and new doctors in the area,

I've decided it's time to get rid of it.

And I'm very confused...

Found through the NVA's list a great doctor (Dr. Rapkin at

UCLA), and she referred me to PT. I'm on the right track, but feel

it's not enough. My issues are too deep and too much of it to be

solved with PT.

So she recommended a colleague of hers, Dr. Mc, who's doing

those Multilevel Nerve Block. They conducted a research about this

treatment together, and it was just recently published. Met him, he is

very very nice, and the procedure sounds plausible (and very very

expensive).

But with all those experimental treatments out there, I simply don't

know if it's the right way to go.

Over the years I've heard of all kinds of injections that had

different rates of success, and I'm not sure if this is simply one

more experiment that doctors are doing on my body, or if this is the

real deal.

Would appreciate your thought & comments.
