If the doctor is a gyn oncologist that can be a good thing.

Some gyn oncologists are experienced with treating vulvodynia

because of the fact that it can be a difficult thing to treat

for some regular OB/GYNs if they don't see enough of it although

the organization that oversees the field of OB/GYN has been

trying to change that over the last 5-10 years.
