Guest guest
I am considering trigger point injections (haven't talked to Liz my PT yet) of steroids/lidocaine. They are supposed to help speed healing. I have made a lot of progress in pt AND by getting my endless infections under control, but there are a couple of stubborn trigger points next to my " sit bones " and around my vestibule that seem to be really tough to get completely gone. My husband has been working on them almost literally every day for the past several months and we've made a ton of progress but not quite 100% yet. Has anybody had these injections done? Guest guest
Lindsey, I've had two tpi injections so far and plan to try a few more. I've had them in my sacral area - but I'm slowly finding more triggers. I think it's one of those things that you (and I hate to say this) have to try for yourself. I spoke with someone who said they never helped her. Seems like triggers are really mean and take awhile to resolve, though. Hang in there.... Guest guest
Chelle and Lindsey, The reason they are so stubborn and often return is because you did not get the underlying or perpetuating factor completely resolved. That may very well be the asymmtry of the pelvis and sacrum that is holding on to the muscle tension and triggers. Guest guest
Yes, I had three trigger point injections in the vestibule area last week. Next month we will do more in the sit bones area. What my doctor did was to have me point (press on) to the spots and he put pen markers in the area I pressed on. The injection needle starts in that area and he pushes the needle around until it hits the exact spot (he describes it as duplicating the pain) and then he injects the medication. It was steroids and Lidocaine. My PT said yesterday that she could tell where he did it as there were black and blue marks. I really think it helped in the vestibule. I am being overly pessimistic about it as I don’t want to be disappointed as I have so many little trigger points in that area. But I do think it is much better. My worst area is the sit bones. What I will do next month is to spend a long time before I go to the doctor feeling around exactly where the spots are and I am going to have my husband mark the spots. It will make it a lot easier for my doctor to do the injections, as I felt sorry for him last time as he was turning himself upside down getting the needle into the right spot. My doctor is so nice about doing the injections, he just has me lie on the table in the position I am most comfortable in and then just slide my underpants and jeans down just enough for him to get to the area. There is no undressing, etc., he wants me to be as comfortable as possible, but he was almost upside down getting to the spots I was pointing to. I have been working on the areas myself daily along with PT for six months and haven’t made any progress which is why I decided to have the trigger point injections done, and I am very glad I did, although they are painful. The next step is for Botox, but I haven’t checked yet, but I don’t think my insurance will pay for it. It costs $600 an injection. nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of Lindsey Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2008 12:13 PM To: VulvarDisorders Subject: Trigger point injections I am considering trigger point injections (haven't talked to Liz my PT yet) of steroids/lidocaine.
