Tom Tom, when you say Muscle Energy Techniques, do you mean getting properly aligned helps them resolve? Also, would you explain what diaphragm & ischemic releases are? Guest guest
Chell, Yes, the Muscle Energy Techniques put the bones back in propper symmetry and the muscles can then relax. They may need some extra help to go back to factory settings and that is where the counterstrain and trigger releases come into play. There are 5 major anatomic diaphragms in the body. They run through you from front to back and side to side instead of up and down you like many of your other major muscles. They are from top to bottom: 1.Sub occipital (just below the skull) 2.Hyoid (right where your adam's apple is) 3.Respiratory /thoracic inlet (top of the lungs where the colar bones are) 4.Respiratory diaphragm (below the ribs whre your diaphragm is) 5.Pelvic floor (pubic to coccyx) Although they are all interconnected, it is the pelvic floor diaphragm release that is most useful in treating disorders of the PF for obvious reasons (am I a geek or what???)LOL By applying very gentle (less than a pound most of the time) pressure from one end of the daphragm to the other, you take tension off the muscle and allow it to " re-set " back to factory settings of tone and tension. ALso allows increased blood flow. Triger ischemic releases are when you find a trigger and just push on it till it hurts and hold it until it reduces. You repeat this for several minutes until the darn thing gives up and is no longer tender. >HOpe this helps Tom (aka geek man) www.tomocklerpt.com > > Tom wrote: > >>>>>Counterstrain and Muscle Energy are the most effective ways to >>>>> eliminate > the triggers.
