Guest guest
Hello all, I am 55 yrs old and was just dxd with vulvodynia. The GYN did a Q- tip test for sensitivity. It has been about 6 months since my last period so my hunch is this may be partially connected with my very low estrogen levels, confirmed by labs and tissue appeared dry to the MD. However, she said this is not her area of expertise and referred me to another MD who supposedly runs a clinic. But when I called to make an apt I was told the clinic had been discontinued. Why? Absurdly because there were so many women suffering from this and related conditions, so at present I do not have anyone except my PCP. She prescibed Premarin cream, but I am reacting to one of the excipients (I'm chemicaly very sensitive) so am now working with a local compounder to get a jojoba base. But for the moment, my question is does anyone have the name of a good doctor in Sacramento, California who specializes in V disorders?? She did not do a pelvic, just looked at the outside tissue and also didn't do cultures for yeast or bacteria. I am in great pain-- burning, stinging, some itching and a sense of pressure and urgency to urinate--urine microscopic was neg. I feel the need for a doctor to work with me ongoing not just one visit and goodbye. I was diagnosed only about a week ago and have had symtoms about 4 wks. Pure agony. Thanks gang--happy I found you--Janet

Guest guest
Hi Janet and welcome to the group. Your hunch about a hormonal component to your pain may be right on - some of us have that issue. I am in my mid 30's and have been using topical Estrace cream for 3 yrs. It has helped my vulvar skin more than anything. I really think that Estrace is much better than Premarin. Estrace is bio-identical to what our ovaries make and it can be compounded in a soothing base as well. If you will go back through the old posts on the group you will find tons of good info. I'll send in some things too. Our HOME page is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VulvarDisorders Have you contacted the NVA? http://www.nva.org They can give you a list a docs in your area that treat Vulvar pain, someone on the group may know a doc that they can point you to. If no-one gets back with you, just repost in a few days, you just never know who is active from day to day. Take care and best wishes, Chelle
Guest guest
Hi, Janet, Whatever, you do, do NOT go to at UC . My hunch is that's where you were referred. She is horrible, and told me that I would never get well. She only tried a few different treatments, it takes months to get in, the residents were awkward and treated me like I was some sort of specimen, etc. Try this doc in : http://www.caringforwomyn.com/ He's been good and helpful. These gals are also the best: http://www.pelvicpainrehab.com/ Good luck and e-mail me if you need anything. Take care, Lindsey > > Hello all, > > I am 55 yrs old and was just dxd with vulvodynia. Guest guest
P.S.-The other problem with Dr. is that she told me she is,"The only game in town," for these vulvar problems and her staff told me that if I went to a different gyn that they would refer me because "nobody else" knows how to treat vulvar problems in the area. I felt very stuck at that point and that I had no options. However, when I went to my new ob-gyn Dr. Fritz-Zavacki in Sacramento, her nurse practitioner says they do treat vulvar problems with quite a bit of success and usually rely on topical treatments. So, I am also in the Sacramento area, feel free to backchannel me. I recommend Dr. Goodman in (www.caringforwomyn.com), Dr. Fritz-Zavacki (you should be able to google her and find her phone number), and Liz and for physical therapy at www.pelvicpainrehab.com. Dr. Goodman was very positive and has said many times, "Nothing lasts forever, this will eventually go away one way or another." He uses many different treatments-topical, medications, injections, referrals to physical therapy, mind/body meditations, referrals to counseling, and surgery when indicated. He is a friend of Dr. Wilems at Scripps, whose articles are often quoted on here about using estrace (NOT premarin). Dr. Goodman regularly goes to conferences on women's health and sexuality and is up-to-date on the most recent research and treatments. Both of these doctors do not accept HMO insurance, they are PPO only and I think Medi-Cal also. However, nothing takes the place of your health and I wish I had gone to Dr. Goodman and Liz from the very beginning instead of wasting my time with the HMO docs. Good luck!
