Guest guest
Hey Gang, The following post was taken from another list of WLS patients most of whom had the distal BPD. This long term postop, Kathy W, sent this post as a guide to our list and as a way to suggest to the members that they needed a plan to follow for success. She has been very successful and has given her permission for me to share her post with other lists. Even though some of the plan may pertain more to those with distal surgeries, the bottom line she addresses is getting healthy and following a plan of action after surgery. Please read it and comment. BobA ****************************************************** Up and Away Why I have been successful at losing and maintaining my weight loss: I was and am compliant, I ate very low carb for 6.5 years, and with doctors instructions am eating moderate low carb.for maintenance. I did not and do not have $10,000-$50,000 dollars for cosmetic surgery. Some tips, that worked for me: Write down every protein food you love or like. Veal, shrimp, steak, cheddar cheese, deviled eggs, fried eggs, ricotta cheese. List sauces you like; Salsa, peanutbutter, horseradish, mustard, cocktail sauce, barbacue sauce. If you don't cook, broil your meat, dump sauce on after cooked In the beginning I made ricotta cheese with low fat cool whip ,with cocoa and sweet-n-low. I did not feel deprived eating my chocolate mousse daily. My Goal daily was to aim for zero carbs, which worked out well, because on the days I did have a carb it was one serving, which is all we are suppose to have. .. Carry string cheese on you and water. Keep water and peanuts in car. Donot eat anything you donot like. Do not buy carbs, then you do not eat them. Children ,spouses and support people do understand. Endurance, movement and renewed self –esteem: Walk to get a paper every morning. Take 2, 16 ounce cans and do triceps extentions extend arm up to ceiling 5to 10 times it tightens up back of arms. Join water walking or water aerobics, at the county pool or college campus. They have senior, disabled classes I started with, be sure to drink water before ,during and after work-out. Reap the benefits, of a better mood, outlook and renewed endurance. I found this to help me gain confidence and body acceptance. I had a 60 inch waist which is now 27 do totally to exercise. Surround yourself with happy positive people even if it is 1 person . Stick with the winners in the group . If you want to learn to swim , you do not ask someone who doesn't know how to swim. Seek out individuals who are compliant with the diet and successful. Be good to yourself you are worth it. Strengthen your psyche (mental Health): Good events are stressful, strengthen your foundation, i.e. support system. Keep a daily journal Write a daily gratitude list Make and keep a monthly brag book, with monthly pictures weight, measurements, chest, waist, hips, thigh, ankle, arm, wrist. Bring measuring tape to meeting have someone you trust and like take measurements and a picture. Thank your higher power for this miracle that is working in your life. Sign up for a class on something you like or want to learn, philophsophy, jewelry making, weight training, take them for non- credit( no stress). Join the optimist club, or 1 of the 75 at Montgomery College, age doesn't matter, I am 41. Invest in a poster or painting of nature, my painting cost $39.00. Play music that makes you happy. Eat good food. Make weekly movie date with friend. Plan a monthly excursion, a deviled egg in the park is quite a picnic, and change of scenery. Reclaim the JOY of being Happy . Kathy W.
