My husband also has the cerebellar type of MSA(MSA -C) .The neurologist explained that mostly his balance would be affected. But his autonomic system is also affected , hence multi systems. I guess the autonomic atrophy affects his other problems that have developed like his speech being slurred, light headedness on standing or exertion, impotence, frequinte urination. He does not have tremors. Since there in no medication for balance problems, he only take salt and flurinef to control his blood pressure. Hope this helps Symptoms began in 99, still walks unaided. Dx in 2000

I'm proud of the fact that is now getting the recognition of an

important part of support for adults and care-givers with mito and suspected

mito. I really see this as a special place for all of us and like the fact

that we were able to contribute and get the recognition for the group.

Hi Group and All Contributors,

I have been out here a few weeks now and while I have not really posted before,

I am reading so many of the posts. They are so helpful. So I am incredibly

appreciative to all of you for both the questions and the answers coming up in

this forum. It is so safe and so much of what I identify with making it

incredibly validating on this sometimes scary journey.

My nada recently chose NC with me (not for long I am sure) because I gave my

Aunt (Dad's sister) too much attention after the sudden loss of her 41 year old

son. I am grateful my nada chose NC. It is a blessing to me that it was her

choice. And I find that I support her choice and will maintain it even when she

chooses to try to mend fences for attention.

I just realized she was BPD. I have known something was terribly wrong for

sometime. But could not figure it out and never wanted to hurt her. But boy oh

boy does she not mind hurting me. Her second ex-husband and I spoke because I

needed to know if he knew what was wrong with her. He told me she absolutely

has BPD. He told me to look it up and I did. It is an exact match. The list

of bad things she has done to me is so long and there is no list of good things.

So sad...for her. She has really missed out on raising her 3 beautiful

children. Now, none of us speak with her. I was the last one.

But I must protect myself, my spouse and my children. So I accept her NC and

will maintain it even when she changes her mind. This group has given me the

strength, clarity and good conscience to know what is right for my family

without feeling guilt for the abusive nada. Hope everything I have posted is

proper and correct. It is my first post.

Thank you again to all of you!

Carolyn

Agree with every point you make...

I am fairly new to the group and feel the same as you.

Having joined this group has made a great difference in a really short

period of time.

Hang tough!

Please hold firm to the NC. My nada has been mad at us plenty of times telling

us not to come over, don't call, etc. Then in no time at all she would call us

and want us to visit. One of the most recent times she was quite nasty about it.

But the very next morning the water line to her toilet broke and was flooding

the bathroom and hallway. She was frazzled and couldn't turn off the line. Hubby

drove over there ASAP (still 1/2 hour drive) and took care of the mess. What did

she do? She stood there watching him the whole time and just chain smoked. No

offer of help or thank you.

This final time she has done the whole kiss off routine and we're going to stick

with it. Especially since she has called the police to report that we've been

stealing from her (not even a hint of truth in that one). So we're done.

It is easier when they go NC with us instead of us trying to cut the ties. Now

the only trick is to make sure they don't try to draw us in again with some tale

of woe. Be strong.
