Guest guest
Okay, graphic descriptions follow. I noticed tonight that an area right at the base of my vulva looks...I'm not sure how else to say it...scraped. Like a mild abrasion or something, scratched. A small section has rough bits that are whitish/lighter in color, but like on a cat's tongue, they only go in one direction. I can smooth them down that way, but if I rub them the wrong way (which hurts, of course), they stick up. Is this what vaginal tearing is like? Anything else it could be? Guest guest
Hi Eva, That sounds similar to HPV. Have you ever been tested for it? It's very common and outbreaks look similar to what you described. The old fashioned way of testing for it is to dip a q-tip in vinegar and dab it on the area. If you see white spots, its probably HPV and the OBGYN can help you treat it. Then again, since you think it may be a tear, you probably don't want to try the vinegar test!! Hope this helps, Debbie > > Okay, graphic descriptions follow. > > I noticed tonight that an area right at the base of my vulva > looks...I'm not sure how else to say it...scraped. Guest guest
I have had the same thing for a few months now. The rough bits were also itching a lot when they first showed. I have no idea what it is. My gyn also couldn't tell me. All she said was that it looked " normal " and I shouldn't worry about it. I don't know if I can believe this. It's like this is what she always says. Not very helpful. I'd be interested to hear what others have to say. > > > > > Okay, graphic descriptions follow. > > > > I noticed tonight that an area right at the base of my vulva > > looks...I'm not sure how else to say it...scraped. Guest guest
Thanks to both of you for the quick replies! I actually was looking up more info on HPV when I found info about vulvar papillomae, which sounds a lot more like what I have (and, perhaps, what you have, Yvonne?). You can distinguish them from HPV in that they occur symmetrically rather than randomly (mine are in sort of lines along either side of the bottom of my vulva), they have rounded tips, and their bases are discreet--in other words, each little nub is separate from the others, rather than sharing one blob-like formation. Vulvar papillomae have not been found to have any connection with HPV, but they look rather similar, hence the confusion. They're harmless and natural, and occur in 1/3 to 1/2 of women, but some may not even notice. I probably wouldn't, normally, I just have to pay such close attention to that area with my vestibulitis that I notice any abnormality IMMEDIATELY. I think that's probably what this is. I have a gyno appointment on Tuesday for my vestibulitis, and I'll ask about it and let you know what I come up with. I'd never even heard of this until I had to look it up. Kind of like I'd never heard of vulvar vestibulitis until it happened to me. It's amazing the things they DON'T teach us about our bodies. On that note, anybody know of a really good, all-inclusive medical (especially gynecological) book that has pictures for EVERYTHING? That would be so useful for the average person. > > > > > > Okay, graphic descriptions follow. > > > > > > I noticed tonight that an area right at the base of my vulva > > > looks...I'm not sure how else to say it...scraped. Guest guest
Hey Eva, glad to hear that you may have figured out what is going on with the skin issues. If your gyn doesn't help, then you could try a dermatologist. Even if they do not specialize in Vulvar Disorders, they do indeed know about skin conditions, including the genital area. Just a thought, anyway. Also, you may already know this, but I think "The V.Book" by is a really good book for women. It not only shares tons of info on Vulvar conditions, but the drawings are really good for helping a woman become more familiar with her body. Guest guest
Thanks! I ordered the V. Book, and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. Also, I went in to my appointment today, and it was just vulvar papillomae after all. Silly me was panicking about HPV all week... > > Hey Eva, glad to hear that you may have figured out what is going on with the skin issues.
