Guest guest
I read this today and am wondering now since my primary symptom seems to be urinary burning if it would be best to see the two women doctors in philly ( I think one is a urogyne) or to keep my appt with Dr Goldstein that I made. Does anyone know how familiar he is with urethra issues? Im sure its my pelvic floor like this woman said in this post, but in the event it is something more like a problem with the urethra I am wondering how knowledgeable he is? any comments? I am in PA so either doctor would be driving distance. thanks "and I have had over a year of terrilbe burning in the uretha I seen a new uro gyno ladie today she actually listened...no inflammation in uretha or blockage but said the mucules around there were tight and very inflammed hince the burning and is sending me to pt soon...so how does this stop the burning I ask??? no pills I do still have IC although most of my pain has been in the uretha and still to do the at home instillations of heparin. let me know what I am in for and give me some hope please!!! she also said this may be due to trama from my vaginal hysterectomy less then a year ago thanks xoxo Red in WA state"Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Carolyn, I always try to have a back up plan. I'd make an appt. with both offices, if one doesn't work out, you'll already have an appt. with the next one (could save a lot time). If the first appt. offers helps, then you can cancel the second. Just a thought.... ~Chelle
Guest guest
Before you go to either one, I would advise that you call them and find out whether either thinks they can help you. Goldstein is probably very good for what he does but I have read a lot of his writings and do not recall anything about bladder problems or urethra issues. But I could be wrong. I was going to recommend what Ora mentioned. Try calling their offices and if you cannot speak with the Dr., then ask to speak to their nurse (NOT the receptionist). Be honest, but polite and blunt - tell them you don't have the time or money to miss the mark. I promise you are not alone. Most of us do not have the time or money to waste on docs that will be of no help...hang in there.... ~Chelle
Guest guest
I just wasted $250 bucks on a female urologist. Her receptionist said she treated VV and then I went to see her, she was not that well versed and HAD NO CLUE about Yeast problems that could be a part of it. Waste of money! Guest guest
Carolyn, I recently went to a urogyn doc and it was by far the most useless nonsense I have ever had the pleasure of before. He was in PA too. I hope it wasn't the same one. I think he was also cited as one of this area's great docs. He seemed to always change the conversation around to fitting his main purpose in life which was to determine if somebody is incontinent and how he has this surgical sling procedure to lift the bladder. None of those things were anything I consulted him for and I assure you I would know if I were incontinent. This seems to be a fairly new specialty and as far as what I observed they ought to do away with it. I wonder if there is a definition anywhere of a " Uro-Gyn " and just what he is supposed to be solving. However, do everything and see everybody to try to find out the problem. You might get lucky. There is another female urologist in the area (Westchester) )South on 202 from King of Prussia if you are interested. I like her a lot. If you wish to have this information email me off list. She seems to be a straight up uro doc and I have no idea about whether she can help you with the urethra problems but I would put my money on her over the urogyn in a heartbeat. I find that my urethra gets vary painful when I have a lot of yeast and in fact feels like a bladder infection coming on. Guest guest
HI .... I hear you and guess not much has changed with these doctors *sigh* what a shame. Hopefully all of us can help to at least educate our own doctors and eventually the word gets passed around. Frustrating indeed. ; ( Dee Re: urogyne or Dr Goldstein? Guest guest
Urogynecology has been around for about 10 years (it's not all that new of a specialty). They are specialists in helping women with pelvic floor dysfunction issues such as with urinary incontinence but they can also help with fecal incontinence and recommend PT to help pelvic floor muscle spasm such as for those that have issues with IBS-C (IBS with constipation). I went to a urogyn in 2003 who tried to tell me I had pelvic floor muscle spasm. I didn't at the time but I might now due to my GI issues with the IBS and I may consider going there again because the one doctor that my gyn wants me to go to has an NP that can help with this kind of stuff but that will happen after I tend to some other things first.
