Welcome to the group, . Congratulations on your weight loss so far! Good job!! I am also pre-op. I am 40, will be 41 years old in April. I'm hoping to have the surgery before my 41st birthday. I am 5'6", 248 lbs. and I'll need to lose 14 more lbs before I can have the surgery.

You'll find this to be a great place to find advice, support and encouragement when needed. The people are really great.

So, welcome aboard, !

Hi I'm , I live in Riverside, Ca area. I'm 42 years old, will be 43 middle of this week. I'm married & have a 9-year-old son, . I'm pre-op Kaiser approved my surgery this last January. I have my appointment with Crown Bariatrics in Corona for March 8th, hoping to have surgery in June or this summer. I did the classes with Kaiser Permanente in Riverside last February-June 2004. Last Feb I weighed my highest weight 330lbs.(actually Kaiser recorded 324.5lbs on their scale). I'm down to 299lbs and need 7 more pounds to reach my 10%. Still having a hard time losing weight. Has anyone had the surgery done through Crown Bariatrics?

Welcome ! I'm 37 and my highest weight recorded was 330 also.

I'm down to 307.5 and have 10.5 pounds to go before I can get my

surgery scheduled. I'm 5 foot 11 inches tall. Losing the 22.5 pounds

that I've lost has been hard hard work! I'm in the Sacramento area so

I'll be having surgery at the Richmond facility. Hopefully someone

else here on the board will have had surgery through Crown Bariatrics.

Again, welcome!

Hi

cant help on the crown bariatric thing, i am a northern calif girlie and one thing i can tell you that really helped me loose the ten percent, was eating breakfast, and when i felt the need to snack i had beef jerkey, its chewy tastes good and lasts awhile, i also at night would chew on frozen mango chucks i bought at trader joes or in the grocery store, i love mango and the frozen aspect made it last longer. I also dipped the baby carrots in balsamic vinegar and also i did that sometimes with cucumbers. Good luck i know it is hard, i was so nervous about maintaining my weight loss prior to surgery and then the day of surgery came and they didnt even weigh me , go figure .....................................

good luck

I will have to try the beef jerky, baby carrots and mango idea. I

do eat breakfast in the morning. I was put on a 1500 calorie diet by

my primary doctor though half the time I don't make it to the 1500

calories. One thing for sure is I have kept the weight off. Last

October, I had a terrible diabetes scare. My blood sugar went up to

160 3 hours after eating dinner. Went to Kaiser and found out I

don't have diabetes, only hypertension. I have to do the test for

sleep apnea again.

Hi...My name is Patty and I just turned 42. I am going thru Riverside and Crown Bariatrics also. I am actually waiting to take my 8 classes thru Riverside. I have decided on Crown for the convenience of my family. I was going to do Pacific Bariatrics, but Crown is so much closer. Why do you have to do the sleep test again? I just finished mine and am waiting for my cpap machine. I am 5'2 and weigh 259lbs. I am have started the 1200 meal plan today. I need to lose 26lbs. I have looked at Crown's website. I think that there is a meeting tonight.

They say that the Doctor who performs the surgery talks at the seminar. I forgot all about the meeting until I read your post....I know I printed the directions, I will have to look for them. I wanted to go so that I could get a feel for the program.

Hi...I just went online and looked for the seminar schedule. There is one tonight and one next Monday the 28th. I have decided to go to the one on the 28th as it is closer. The one tonight is in Murrieta about 41 miles and the one next Monday is in San Bernardino which is 17 miles.

If you want to go, I would love to have someone to go with. Just let me know.

Thanks,

I think I'll agree with you, for Mon Feb 28th. I didn't know about

the seminars. I would like to join you for the commute. Hubby won't

be home next week, so I'm going to have to take my son with me. I

called the number about the seminar and they told me to reserve a

spot at ph# . Well I called the number and the office

was closed for the holiday. I'll have to call tomorrow. Anyways, I

have an appointment for March 24th for pulmonary again, I guess I'm

assuming I have to do it again. You know how they say they have to

have at least 6 hours of sleep to evaluate your sleeping patterns? I

went to sleep early to attain 8 hours of sleep. However the majority

of the night I coughed, had allergies or something that tickled my

throat. I went to Kaiser Education bldg today to pick up another

gastric bypass brochure, and they sent me to Riverside Kaiser

Medical to make an appointment for chest xray & gall bladder

ultrasound. I made an appointment for March 14 morning. Wished it

was sooner but trying not to piss off my work so much with all these

appointments. I have pre-scheduled personal days off at work and

trying to fit in appointments within my days.

Hi ,

I'm from Riverside too. I'm having my surgery on Thursday at Pacific Bariatrics in San Diego. I went through the Fontana program because I got too much of a run around with Riverside Kaiser. Good luck to you - let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Hi...I will call tomorrow too and sign up for the seminar. I had to go back and do the pulminary thing again too. When I had the original test, they never tested me with the cpap machine on me. I went back in and they gave me a cpap machine to take home. I picked it up on a Friday night and kept it the whole weekend. I picked it up Feb. 4th and took it back on the 7th. They told me it would be about 7-8 working days before I got the results...but it was longer. I actually just got the results last Thursday. I am still waiting for LaTrenda at Van Buren Medical offices to find out about the classes I need to take. Did you do your sleep test thru Fontana? The overnight test? What grade is your son in? I have a son who is 11, his name is . Maybe I could bring him on Mon. and they could keep each other company? I will leave that up to you. My phone number is:. I am

home every afternoon after 1pm.

Oh wow, Adrienne that's great you're scheduled! Your new " birthday "

will be the day after my 43rd birthday. Well I'll be praying for you

(hope, you don't mind) that everything goes smoothly. I'll keep you

in mind, I would love to keep in touch since you're in my local

area. My journey thru Riverside program has been real long. Got my

referral for the wls program in January 2004 when I got pneumonia,

(actually doctor suggested surgery for me in Nov. 2003) took the

classes starting Feb 2004 and took 4 classes, psychology, hormones,

dietician & exercise ending in June 2004. Was told had to get to 5%

weightloss before I could be referred for approval, but didn't reach

5% until January 2005. Did my EKG, urine test & lab this last

January. Middle of January got my approval letter and have an

appointment with Crown Bariatrics on March 8.

No I went to Kaiser Riverside medical center for my cpap class. They

say you get 2 tries to do the test. If you mess up the second time,

you have to go Fontana and do the overnight test. Oh, my son

is in the 3rd grade, He's 9 years old, I was going to tell him to

bring his gameboy advance or a notebook to draw with. When I called

Crown, the attendant said not to bring small children. However 9

year olds are fine. I don't a problem if you want to bring your son.

It sounds like a great idea. I'll give you a call.

Hi ,

As you can see I am not always prompt in replying to my e-mail -

nonetheless, I do want to welcome you to the group. It has provided me

with more support and information than I could ever have imagined. I

hope that it proves to be as valuable for you.

Sorry . . . I don't have any experience with Crown Bariatrics. I hope

that someone else here will be able to help you.

I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi, my name is Hillary. I'm almost 23 years old, and have an 18 year old sister.

Our mother has borderline personality disorder. While she has not been

officially diagnosed, as she doesn't think there is an issue with her behavior,

my therapist, my psychiatrist, one of my psych. nurses at work, my aunt's

therapist, and my sister's therapist have all told us (independantly!) that it

is extraordinarily likely that she has BPD. She also is an alcoholic, and is

still married to my father, who is quite codependant, and passive, and likes to

make excuses for, and enable my mother's behavior. He also had a drinking

problem, and was hospitalized this past march for alcohol withdrawal after a

surgery. He has been sober since (quite honestly i'm worried about this lasting

since he is in such an abusive and stressful environment with my mother who is

sick and an alcoholic).

A few weeks ago, my sister and I took a stand. My mother was having a 'tantrum'

as she didn't want me and my sister to go to my grandfather's funeral, as my

uncle would be there, and she has convinced herself that he is 'trying to turn

her children against her and is spreading lies about her to the world.'

I figured, I am an adult, and my grandma and grandfather were the one truly

loving, and caring influence in my life, and am not going to let my mother's

issues get in the way of being there for my grandma and my family.

Since that point, a lot has changed, my mother turned off my sister's cell phone

and this resulted in her leaving, and having to travel alone from chicago to

Purdue in indiana alone with no phone, took MY car (I had been making payments

to her and my dad, but title was in their name) and called my grandma making

threats and swearing (she is an 86 year old woman).

This was the last straw for me, and for my sister. Prior to this, when my mother

would have a meltdown, I would always fold, and placate her in an attempt to

protect my sister. But since she is no longer a minor, and has moved away from

their home and is financially independant, i don't have to worry. My father is

not there to protect us, as he always tries to smooth things over, and always

feels as though there is a way to prevent my mother's meltdowns, and is now

trying to 'get my mother to realize that she is pushing us away'.

while he realizes that she has a personality disorder, i don't think he really

realizes that until she gets help, she won't change.

Since that point, neither me nor my sister have contacted my mother. For now, it

may be selfish (i know cutting her out won't help her) but it really is

self-preservation for us. I don't have TIME. I am a full time student, and work

full time overnight. My sister is a new college freshman.

It is REALLY tough, and sometimes i'm terrified that I may have it. Is this

normal? I'm very emotional, and stressed, and sometimes am quite needy of

relationships.

I'm sorry this was long and rambling, and I will peruse the posts of others to

see what the forum etiquette generally is.

I am just really happy to have found this online (convenience!) I really am

interested in the experience of others, and hope to gain some perspective and

some advice for my own life.

Thanks,

-Hill
