Guest guest
My PT takes insurance, which is why she is booking new patients now starting in October. Very few take insurance. But if you don’t have insurance she only charges $90 for 50 minutes. WOW $200 – I would not be able to do it weekly – probably monthly. I have a standing weekly appointment booked with her for the next year because it is so hard to get in to see her. She is excellent – one of the best with over 25 years of PT including 15 of those doing just pelvic work. You could always go for just a few sessions to learn how to do some of it yourself, or find out if you could take husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, some other support person to go along with and learn some of the basics. Something is better than nothing – and YES, YES!! It does work. It is painful, but it gets better and less painful the more you go - and now I look forward to it. The skin rolling is relaxing to me – in fact I tell her to go deeper, particular in my butt. I still am not very comfortable with the internal work even though I understand the reasoning behind it. To have PT for the pelvic floor, you have to reach it and that is only through doing it internally. The skin rolling on the outside is connective tissue work and is excellent in keeping the blood flowing and the tissues fluid and moving (rolling). I don’t go for PT for sexual problems – mine is for pudendal neuropathy, which is much harder to treat and cure, which is why I have to go longer. I asked my PT last week what most of her patients come to her for and it was 95 percent sexual painful problems. In fact she has a booklet she hands out called “When Sex Hurts”. I asked her how long it took for most patients she see’s to get better and she said 9-12 weekly sessions for the average woman. And she totally agrees with having a husband, etc. come in and watch and learn. I hope this info helps some and I hope you will be able to continue PT because you will get better! nne From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of Jen Wekselbaum Sent: Friday, March 28, 2008 5:29 PM To: VulvarDisorders Subject: Re: PT therapy I have just started going to PT therapy like nne described, and the skin rolling was very painful for me, but I'm willing to do it if it will take away the burning pain in the long run and allow me to have sex. I have two questions, though - 1) Does it really work? 2) Are there PTs that are covered by insurance who do this kind of work? It is very expensive - $200 for each session - and before I use all my savings I want to make sure there's not a better alternative. thanks for your help!
