Guest guest
Hi, Carolyn!! I wish you'd been at the conference - it was very science-intensive, and I think you would've loved it. One of the most interesting things that they mentioned was that they are exploring the autoimmune nature of PSC - they are changing their view of it from a classic autoimmune disease to something they called an autoimmune " disregulation. " I'm sure someone who went farther in science than I did can step in and explain it further, but it seemed to me they were getting quite close to explaining how the combination of a genetic susceptibility and environmental trigger could create a self-perpetuating cycle of " disregulated " immune cells that, if I recall correctly, somehow left the chloride channels of the biliary tract cells producing an excess of certain chemicals and deficit of others. Wow, reading this over again it is clear that I really am bad at science - does anyone else who actually understood this stuff want to speak up? tx, Nina in Philly >I'd like to hear some of the information from the > conference.
