Guest guest
Eva, I don't know where you live, from what you are saying I assume you are living in SC. Go to a teaching hospital, call the big hospitals in your state. Teaching hospitals usually have doctors that can treat your problem. My heart goes out to you, I will keep you in my prayers, that you find a doctor that can help. Millie Doctor Question! Please? Okay. So I had a recommendation from a website that claimed thedoctors it listed specialized in vulvar disorders. I made anappointment with the only listed doctor in my area, and now doingfurther research his only listed specialties are urogynecology andrelated pelvic floor disorders. Is it relevant or appropriate for meto be going to this doctor for vulvar vestibulitis? I'm more hesitantbecause when I called and talked to his nurse practitioner to ask if Ishould go ahead and stop using Ortho Tricyclen-Lo (since I've heard sooften it can cause or worsen this condition), she had never heard ofany link between vulvar vestibulitis and oral b.c.And finally, if I can't go to this doctor, who can I go to? I don'thave the money to join the NVA and access their list of specialists(even if there are really any in my area, which is Greenville, SC),and I don't know how to find a gynecologist who knows a good amountabout vulvar vestibulitis, since my list gyno gave me lidocaine anddidn't make any further attempt to treat it.I'm lost. Guest guest
Only you can decide whether it is relevant or not based on all that you feel painwise and based on what you've read and understood about your condition. I'm not trying to be rude, but we don't experience your pain when and were you do . So if you researched pelvic floor disorders and you think you may have some of those symptoms - then you know the answers. You have plenty of time between now and your appt. date to cancel if you find that the info you are reading doesn't seem to apply to you.As for birth control pills, again - I would advise you read our archives and medical websites to assure yourself whether or not your particular kind are troublesome to the vulvo/vaginal skin. Stay away from the health food sites and natural progesterone cream sites. Go for medical sites like Medscape (free) or Pubmed. You can go to ur pharmacy also and get a copy of the actual insert printed by the mfg of the product which lists its uses, side effects, dosage, contraindications etc.etc.Don't believe that the website is accurate. Pull out your telephone book and start looking in there under gyno's or physicians for specialists in pelvic disorders. Call each office to see if VV is one of the things they treat.A word of caution.... just because that employee hadn't ever heard of b/c pills causing problems doesn't mean it 'ain't so'. Your current doc never heard of using anything but lidcaine and you have heard differently here.Good luck and keep us postedDusty\Eva wrote: Okay. Guest guest
, Call around. Usually office staff/nurses can tell you if a doctor has experience in vulvar disorders or has patients with them. You may have to call around a bit before you find someone. Just because a nurse doesn't know anything, doesn't always mean much. Even some of Dr. 's nurses haven't known things I've called about. But people here know more than a lot of doctors! We often print info. from this group to take to our physicians - many drs. don't know what drs. in other parts of the country are trying or what the latest or certain obscure studies say. You may end up doing some dr. education! Melinda
Guest guest
I would guess that you asked the wrong question from the wrong person. A urogynecologist would seem to me to be the exact person you need to see. A Nurse Practioner is not going to tell you over the phone to stop taking your birth control medication.
