Guest guest
-----Original Message----- >>> Why is his team recommending spleenectomy? Ken has 3 splenic artery aneurysms. One is 1.0cm, the second is 7mm and the third (wasn’t visualized as well), but they think it’s “up to” 1.0cm too. They didn’t seem overly concerned, but did say they will remove the spleen during transplant. His spleen is well over 25cm. He has so many collaterals to worry about, that his surgery will probably take a really long time anyway. >>>When I was preparing for transplant - get the tax papers, wills, power of attorney, living will ready Lucky (?) Ken, he doesn’t have to do taxes (has such a small income), doesn’t need a will (his only asset is his dogs and even that’s debatable!) We did a Power of Attorney for Health Care and a general Power of Attorney in 1999 when he was diagnosed. His docs at Baylor gave him 2 immunizations (for the splenectomy) right after his evaluation. His Hep B shots didn’t take so he is taking those over again. He has Medicare & Medigap and has passed the wallet biopsy, so he is good to go. I’m just looking for any and all information I can find to make his post transplant recovery go smoother. Your web site is amazing. I really enjoyed (I doubt “enjoyed” is the right word!) your description of your old liver. I am planning on taking pictures (if Baylor lets me) of Ken’s old liver – he wants to see what it looks like too. Hopefully they won’t be carrying it around in a bucket like they did yours. Both you and Jon seem to have recovered so quickly, do you have any suggestions for us? Barb in Texas
