Guest guest
I would say, like I see on this site all the time: trust your instinct. I was in a slightly different position, as I did not have anyone refer me to a local orthotist. I made contact with one person who was flying to Phoenix for treatment, who had actually been told by the orthotist at Children's (starband) that he would not band her child. I adamantly did not want to be in the position of convincing someone to treat my child. I felt if they didn't want to do it, I didn't want them to do it. I did not research any local orthotists at all...I just felt if the doctors weren't referring patients for treatment, local offices couldn't possibly be as experienced as other places. But that was a result of the direction doctors led me. I kept getting the " it's no big deal, it's not worth it, etc. " From this site, I hadn't seen any reports of anyone ever having any problems with a DOC band, and I felt like, since I had no medical resource locally, I'd better go with a place that I could trust wihthout question. Sounds like you've had some support and Hangar has stepped up and shown they are willing to treat your child. So, if you're comfortable with Hangar and your experience so far, I'd say don't worry about too much. And be thrilled that you won't be on a first name basis with the TSA people out at DIA! Use the people on this site as a resource to help make sure your band is designed and managed properly. If you're still not sure, I believe I've seen lists on this site regarding questions to ask (and answers to expect) in determining the skill of your orthotist. The only other things to consider, I'd say, would be your child's age and whether the band is active or passive. One of the moderators would probably do a better job of explaining the pros and cons of the types, and what ages they are appropriate for. The DOC Band is active, and as I understand it you want an active band for any baby over 6 months? My daughter's measurements originally were 22mm, 13mm, 13mm; she needed 2 bands and finished at 5mm, 3mm, 2mm - amazing results. Glad to be able to help a little! I was so disappointed with the lack of support for treating in this area - I'm glad you've found some support. It's so hard even deciding to get a band for your baby. It seems crazy that you should have to worry about where to get it done too! Good luck! Tammy > > > > > > > > Hi.
