Portal vien thrombosis is not a good thing. I'm sorry to learn that it

is one more thing that you have to deal with. You should visit with

your doctor pronto. Port vein thrombosis is where the blood flowing in

the portal vien clots and blocks the vein. Your doctor will want to

investigate the CT and perhaps get a portal vien ultrasound to

detirmine if this is recent or chronic and if it is partial or complete.

Portal vein thrombosis causes cirrhosis on it's own even without PSC.

It also can complicate liver transplantation as the new liver needs a

working portal vein. If the clot is recent, it may respond to blood

thinner which can save the portal vein must be carefully managed as

cirrhosis has it's own bleeding problems.

You will want to ask your doctor if there is a reason that your

blood would clot. There are blood tests to find the reason:

antiphosphlipids, Leiden factor V, polycythemia etc.

Good luck and tell us what you find.
