Guest guest
Whoooo Bruce ... I'm "the other side of the coin" here. My Gastro Rx Prilosec, generic. I pay $10 for 90 day supply (2 dly...20 mcg). I know there is controversy re: Prilosec vs. Nexium but the P works great for ME. Mine is taken mostly for gastritis so that could be the difference. MamaSher, age 70. IPF 3-06, OR. NasturtiumsDon't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Drug Pricing Conversation Just curious to see reactions to the following and thoughts on Canadianand other foreign pharmacies. So, consider the following and let's hearyour thoughts. I thought this might be interesting conversation.Require 2 - 40 mg Nexium per day so sixty 40 mg Nexium per month.Price-US Pharmacy - $305Price-Canadian Pharmacy Name Brand Nexium - $168Price-Canadian Pharmacy Generic Nexium - $78Price-Indian Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Generic Nexium - $52Note that this topic is especially an interesting drug because AstraZeneca has been sued by various pharmaceutical companies over the patentfor Nexium. Furthermore, an Indian pharmaceutical sued and then settledwith them receiving future exclusive generic rights to start six monthsbefore the patent ends. This particular company has made practice ofsuing and settling.Note: I'm sure some will ask what about Prilosec? Gastroenterologiststrongly recommends against based on my condition. Further, he states toachieve the equivalent of 80 mg Nexium per day you would need to take 8of the 20 mg Prilosec. This is based on 1/2 of the Prilosec actuallybeing a similar active ingredient to Nexium and the other halfconsidered not to be of benefit. So, even if you were going to do it to achieve equivalent in benefit(based on his opinion and that of some others but not all by any means)you would need 240 Prilosec which would run about $150 or generic wouldrun about $130 for generic Prilosec. Guest guest
Sher Well, Nexium it is till death do us part at 80 mg per day. Now just the debate of whether to try any of the Canadian or other pharmacies for it. The potential savings of $3000 per year would sure pay for a trip to Disneyworld. lol. > > > > Whoooo Bruce ... Guest guest
Bruce ... it is absolutely staggering what meds/drugs/supplies and OTC are costing! I have no experience with shopping Canada but I know you will research it thoroughly. Heck, on 3k you could visit Disneyworld and Oregon. lol MamaSher, age 70. IPF 3-06, OR. Guest guest
Bruce, I just thought I'd give you some information. Be careful about the Nexium...I had really bad intestinal problems with 3 -- 20mg daily. I spent much of my days in the potty!!! I had to find other GERD meds to work for me. We tried .... Acidphex, Prilesec, and finally Previcid is doing just fine. And I only need one a day instead of the 3 Nexium. So, less pills to swallow!~ Z fibriotic NSIP/05 Z 64, fibriotic NSIP/o5/PA And “mild” PH/10/07 and Reynaud’s too!! No, NSIP was not self-inflicted…I never smoked! Mine is quite severe so needs the strongest dosage he can prescribe which is 80 mg of Nexium per day. In fact, due to the condition of my esophagus he doesn't want to perform any more endoscopies or even mildly invasive procedures which put anything in my esophagus unless there was something severe (like bleeding) to require it. > > Whoooo Bruce ... Guest guest
Thanks for the information. Now, I've been on Nexium for about 4 years or so and been on 80 MG for over a year. Fortunately, I haven't had the problems you mention. But I do know and its always a good reminded that any drug can have side effects and especially when you're taking double the normal dosage as I am. Diarrhea, followed by headache and abdominable pain are the most common side effects of Nexium. Sort of ironic that I take no meds for PF and take no more than one med for any condition yet find myself on 9 meds right now in addition to oxygen. > > > > > > Whoooo Bruce ...
