Guest guest
There is a very informative article about oxalic acid at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxalic_acid However oxalates are formed by combining oxalic acid with calcium (usually). They are found in many vegetables, fruit and nuts. One thing I noticed in the article was that when eating rhubarb with milk it leaves a gritty feeling in the mouth. I thought that was interesting because it might indicate that the oxalates in the rhubarb are combining with the calcium in milk and producing grit in the mouth. That " grit " could conceivably lead to irritation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and cause tiny bits of blood to be visible.
