Guest guest
Hi ~ I have been a member of this group since July, but I have not posted before now. I had noticed that my husband had terrible halitosis and the doctors looked at my funny when I mentioned it. We went to Mayo in June and saw Dr. Gores. I asked him about it and he immediately said it was due to his PSC. My husband tries to eat mints or chews gum when he can, but it is difficult. It is hard for me to sometimes not pull away when he tries to get close. Our 5 year old twin daughters have even complained about it. It is another thing we are working through together with this crazy disease. I just wanted to say thanks to this group. Even though this is my first post, I have learned so much from this group. I am very grateful you are all here to inform us all. Thanks so much! (wife of Claude PSC/US 5/99) Although this is a relatively embarrassing issue, I feel that this is the best place to ask the question. I have been to see my doctor, and have mentioned it to other people in the medical field, and no one seems to take me very seriously and that is the issue of halitosis. They have implied that it could be my imagination! Trust me, it is not!
Guest guest
Several sites to read below, but the most interesting one I found so far says: Liver disease, or Hepatitis--In particular, Fetor Hepaticus, which is bad breath caused by chronic liver failure. Also known as " breath of the dead, " Fetor hepaticus is a condition seen in portal hypertension where an incompetent liver allows mercaptans to pass directly into the blood stream, and finally into the lungs where they are exhaled. It is a late sign in liver failure. The breath has a sweet, fecal smell to it….. http://www.doctorspiller.com/halitosis.htm http://www.dentalgentlecare.com/new_page_7.htm http://health.yahoo.com/ency/healthwise/sig258649spec HTH Barb in Texas - Together in the Fight, Whatever it Takes!
