Guest guest
Avery is 14 weeks old. She 'will' take a bottle when I have to work, but she doesn't really like it. Question #1- Shouldn't she be taking more than 4 oz every 4 hours by now? Question #2- Having BAD supply problems again. Taking Fenugreek, but it doesn't seem as effective this time around. I feel SO full when I get home at night after work, I pump, I get about 5-6 oz total, both sides. (I have the Avent ISIS) Shouldn't it be more than that? I am having trouble getting her 3-4oz bottles for while I work. There is NONE in the freezer now. I cannot take time off.... UGH... I DON'T want to give up. She has never had a drop of formula & I don't want to give it to her. We're thinking about renting a hospital grade pump. $35 a month will be MUCH cheaper than that **** formula. Should I just supplement & forget about it? The past few nights she has been getting up about 5 times to eat. Maybe she's teething, but I'm SO afraid it's because she's not getting enuff. I'm not even leaking too much anymore. I'm afraid that I'm drying up. Do I just give up now ? I absolutely have to work right now. ~ S. <>< Mommy of (7), Connor(5), Evan(2), and announcing Miss Avery 8/30/00 ~*Our Miracle*~
Guest guest
NO you do have to give up.... It sounds like she is reverse cycling her nursing. She eats just enough during the day to sustain herself, and then nurses like mad at night when you are home. She prefers mom! Is she gaining well? Peeing? Pooping? Hitting the developmental stages that she should be hitting? Smiling? Are there other reasons that you doubt your supply? Not leaking really doesn't mean anything. Some moms never leak, some do it the whole time they are nursing, be it a few days or a few years. Are you able to pump while you are at work? Guest guest
, Get the hospital breast pump it will make a huge difference. The risks of formula are real and supplementing is something that should be done if other efforts aren't working. Some babies don't take much when their moms are gone and then make up with marathon nursing when she returns. It is hard to guage how much she is getting when she is nursing and she could easily be making up the difference. Guest guest
, > Avery is 14 weeks old. She 'will' take a bottle when I have to work, but she doesn't really like it. Great, less chance of nipple confusion since she loves her source more than her food. > > Question #1- Shouldn't she be taking more than 4 oz every 4 hours by now? Frequently babies take less from the bottle than from mom. She probably takes double that when nursing. Think of it as a compliment. > Question #2- Having BAD supply problems again. Go on a pumping schedule for those times. Try to pump at work. You are not drying up if you feel fullness and can pump in the evenings. Relaxing will really help your output. Try to pump while Avery is nursing--using your hand pump, in addition to what you can get with the super-duper pump you rent. Check Wendi's website for tinctures. Avery could be going through a growth spurt too. Amy Lynn mother to 1-25-98 and 2-10-00 Want great toys? Guest guest
I agree, my dd *might* take 5-6 oz total from 7am-5pm when i'm gone but I can forget doing anything else as she RCN's and starts nursing every hour from 6pm-1am then off an on threw the night. As long as she's happy and your getting the right amount of diapers she's just fine=) Your supply has probably regulated so that your making more at night and less during the day which is normal when you have an RCN baby. You might want to get a hospital grade pump if your really worried though. RE: I need help again, PLEASE! > NO you do have to give up.... > > It sounds like she is reverse cycling her nursing. Cameron is 4 months old and still only takes 3 oz in each bottle. >Question #2- Having BAD supply problems again. Taking Fenugreek, but it doesn't seem as effective this time around. I feel SO full when I get home at night after work, I pump, I get about 5-6 oz total, both sides. (I have the Avent ISIS) I have the Isis and get like 3 oz if I'm lucky! I'd LOVE to get 5-6!! >We're thinking about renting a hospital grade pump. $35 a month will be MUCH >cheaper than that **** formula. Should I just supplement & forget about it? If you are willing to pay the money to supplement, then I'd spend the money on the hospital pump and see how it does for you.
