Guest guest
I had the same experience with my first baby. But I think that it is " barbaric " when they do it without warning and with no anesthesia. They had plenty of time to do anesthesia but just cut me and that really hurt. I still remember the pain 50 years later. And it took months for the stitches to heal. Ora >nne, with my first baby ('96), my doc didn't ask, he just went ahead and did an episiotomy. I don't think they should do them as 'routinely' as they do these days...but on the other hand, tearing is a very 'real' possibility. My mother in law tore terribly with her first child (all the way to her rectum). I tore even with the episiotomy with my first child, but it wasn't severe. With my second child, I told my doc that I wanted to try to avoid one, but it ended up being necessary. I think it's like everything else... " to each his own " .... *grin* > > I am just so glad that we have EPIDURALS these days. I wouldn't have given birth without one! I sure wouldn't allow a doctor to do surgery without anesthesia and I wasn't going to give birth without it either...LOL!!! My husband was so nervous when I went into labor with our first son...I asked him recently why, and he said, " because you told me that you were gonna kill me if I didn't get you to the hospital in time for an Epidural " .... smart man!
