Guest guest
Jack I was already not working so wasn't an issue but I do want to follow up on you letting those you word with know. At one time I wouldn't have done that but now there are a couple of reasons to do so, even though an unscrupulous employer could try to somehow find a way to get rid of you to save future insurance or other costs. First, you're likely to have lots of doctor appointments, you need very much to avoid sick people and germs and take precautions, and you may have problems causing you to be absent. How do you explain without sharing? How else do you keep the person who came to work with a horrible cold from getting too close? Second, you are entitled to some protection through the Americans with Disabilities Act. (At some point you may also need to use the Family Leave Act). Well, the ADA requires the employer to make reasonable accomodations. They can't accomodate something they don't know about. If you were on oxygen, sudden airline travel could be a problem, so scheduling would be a reasonable accomodation plus paying any additional airline costs if you got oxygen from the carrier. What if the next meeting is at the top of Grandfather Mountain or in Colorado? You may need oxygen there even if you don't at home. What about company meetings where employees room two to a room but you're having a concentrator delivered which a roommate migh not like hearing? I actually know of an employee who could no longer fly for medical reasons and the company wanted him to attend a corporate meeting in Europe. They were owned by a European company. Now just so happened they also owned the QEII cruise liner. So, although meant losing some work time, it was important enough to them for him to go, that they took him to Europe and back on the QEII. > > Sharon, I found it best at the outset to let everyone whom I work with, including my employees, and to whom I am close, friends and family, know my situation. All received the information well and as time has passed it has become just a part of who I am. No one swooned nor treats me differently. This may be because I have no apparent symptons unless an activity requires some exceptional exertion, which I quietly decline. The young and the old were told, although I did not emphasize the grim reaper lurking in the background. > An unexpected benefit has been an increase in emails and phone calls from my many far-flung grandchildren, including a dcotor and a nurse who are very familiar with our disease. > Jack > 79/IPF - UIP/dx06/05 Maine > > > > sharon > > > > sharon, > welcome to the group. > you will be in shock for a few weeks and it will take you > about 18months to come to terms with this monster. > > the main things you will have to decide about is whether > to take the pred steroid and have a vats biopsy. these > have been talked about lots on this site so you will find > loads of stuff to read. > > not having any medication at the moment isn't a bad thing. > you want to be informed before you make any decisions on > meds. to help yourself right now, just slow down. > > where are you in oz. we have gina in brisbane on the site > and my brother is in adelaide. > > a lot of pf is found to be caused by autoimmune conditions > so treating that slows down progression. > > may uip 0606 > glasgow scotland > > > ________________________________ > Win a MacBook Air or iPod touch with Yahoo!7- Find out more. >
