Guest guest
Hi, I am very new to this group and have done a lot of reading of messages and hope that you can help me. I am 53 years old, in menopause, have m.s. and am really struggling with vulvar pain. For 9 months, I have had a great deal of itching, burning, discomfort and pain in my vulvar area. I have been to several g.p.s. two gynecologists and a m.s. neurologist and it has been very frustrating. I was on premarin before the pain started and had to go off premarin as it increased the burning. Since then I am on vagifem. I was on Lyrica for several months and although it decreased the burning, I still have general discomfort - itching, pain and sandpaper type feeling. My neurologist has me now on gabapentin for several weeks and no change. Urine is very irritating and my only relief comes from icepacks. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do for pain relief. My neuorologist has referred me to a woman's centre but it will be many months before I am able to see a specialist. Any ideas. I thought perhaps I should look at Estrace as urine and premarin seem to irritate my symptoms but the gabapentin isn't enough. Thanks for whatever feeback you are able to give me. Guest guest
Lee, Your symptoms in the vulvar area made me think that I should ask you about whether you have diabetes. There are new guidelines for diabetes now. Your glucose levels when fasting should be less than 100. They sound just like it to me? Also with your MS it would be a good idea to be tested for gluten sensitivity (not celiac) by stool test. Guest guest
Lee: More ideas to make you " comfortable " If you don't do this already I would recommend that you use only unscented " Free & Clear " Laundry products and you may want to double rinse, as well. " no soap down there " is a big rule, too. Just use water and your hands. A very mild bath/shower soap is also recommended - I use Dove for sensitive skin but gals here use a variety of good soaps. I used to wash my hair separate from my shower when I was real bad but I don't do that anymore as it's not irrating (I rinse " down there " very well at the end of my shower) My shampoo is the only thing I use that has scent (I didn't care for the unscented shampoos - but you can get them at Whole Foods and on line). I'm guessing your Dr's may have told you this stuff already, but just in case! Hugs Molly
