Guest guest
Hi all. Wondering what you think of sit-ups for people with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction? I have IC and vulvodynia, which are manageable, thank G-d, with medication. I was in PT for a long time and still go for a tune up. Last time my PT said my muscles were in good shape. I'd like to strengthen my abs to help with low back pain that comes and goes; my back strains easily. Is there a way to work the abs and not tighten the pelvic floor? Thanks,

Guest guest
, Careful, When you increase intrabdominal pressure with sit ups, it puts pressure on the Pelvic floor. If the PF is not strong enough you can actually do damage. So very important to do "roll for control" protocol for 4-6 weeks prior to doing abdominal work. Also sit ups do not work the abdominal core.... they build the hip flexors and rectus abdominus which actually makes the core weaker. The roll for control protocol can be found on my web site www.tomockerpt.com and click on the exercise protocol button. Also, there is a movie series of 5 short clips about the core and a safe way to start working on it.... TKOPT Rosen wrote: Hi all.
