Guest guest
I had this several times and it stopped only after my bile ducts were opened during an ERCP. In my humble opinion it is PSC related and I think you should talk to a hepatologist. Chaim Boermeester, Israel From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of soc310 Sent: Monday, June 11, 2007 02:26 To: Subject: nausea and vomiting Is anyone having trouble with recurrent nausea and vomiting? Is this connected to when the bile is backing up? My daughter is on zofran and benedryl but seems to get minimum benefit from it. She is unable to digest a lot of different foods which she previously tolerated ,such as her favorite vegetables. Any suggestions?

Guest guest
I used to have terrible nausea that Zofran and compazine combined couldn't even touch. I was loosing weight, had no energy, and could barely eat a fruit cup or small amount of applesauce. My GI doc took it very seriously and suggested Motilium (aka Domperidone). It doesn't cause drowsiness, although you have to take it 4 times a day. I had to order it from New Zeeland (I think). It took a little while for it to work, but did wonders. I also got a referal for a nutritionist who helped me identify foods that I could tolerate along with suggesting smaller meals. For a while I was on protonix, motilium, and compazine and zofran (as needed)for stomach issues. NOw, except for the protonix, I only take them as needed. I also notice an improvement after ERCPs. Corrie UC 95 PSC 00 PArtial removal of pancreas due to pancreatitis 04 And, in general, a great big mess but doing loads better. > > Is anyone having trouble with recurrent nausea and vomiting? Guest guest
I agree with Chaim, these could be symptoms of bile duct blockage (plus, with or without jandice, dark urine and right upper pain). Talk with the gastro or hep doc about this. Chris
Guest guest
I have had nausea problems every since diagnosed with PSC. The severity changes but it rarely seems to go away totally. I believe it is PSC related. Like one of the others I cover the symptom with medication. Though I disagree that it is related to backed up bile. My liver is doing well comparatively to other times and I struggle with nausea lots. Though I don't vomit. My GI/hepatologist thinks my nausea is from a back up of stool and has placed me on reglan, which seems to help with the nausea. , Illinois " I had this several times and it stopped only after my bile ducts were opened during an ERCP. Guest guest
--- I've had significant issues with vomiting in the past and Zofran was the gold standard for me -- I'm sorry it doesn't work for your daughter. One other thing that might help is ginger -- like anything else, you should probably ask the doctors first to make sure they are O.K. with it. There are several ways to use it. You can brew ginger tea (to taste) using powdered ginger or freshly sliced or grated ginger. You can get slivers of crystallized ginger to nibble on as needed. You can get ginger capsules from a drug store or health food store. Ginger was quite good at suppressing my nausea when I had labrynthitis and it aids in digestion according to the " experts " whoever they are. I notice that it's a component in " gripe water " that my daughter-in-law is using for my colicky grandson. Guest guest
> > Is anyone having trouble with recurrent nausea and vomiting? I was having nausea, no vomiting, earlier this year and ended up losing about 15 pounds. Finally went to my doc and he put me on Cipro and I felt 100% better 1/2 through the course of antibiotics. Apparently I was having a cholangitis " attack " . I assume a fairly mild one; however, did have some fevers just prior to the nausea. Anyway, I would recommend talking to you doctor and seeing what he thinks if it's an " attack " or not and just something that can be controlled with anti-nausea medication. Hope you are feeling better! Liz>
Guest guest
Thank you for your responses. Our hepatologist and other doctors always seem to feel it is not a typical PSC problem. Our daughter did have relief when she had the internal T-tube. The nausea and vomiting have started again since removal. We will discuss with her doctors. It seems difficult to find out what things are related to PSC and what are not.
