Guest guest
Hi Crystal, his brachy would be considered severe (above 88) but the numbers can be much higher. My daughter started at 100 and is about 86 after her band and looks great. My doctor (cranial facial plastic surgeon) recommends banding above 90% - just to help put it in perspective. his plagio would be considered moderate (10-15 mm). You are starting young and should do very well. My daughter was scanned for her band around the same time and started wearing it when she turned 5 mo. She wore it for 5 mo. I think with a DOCband and the current numbers your son would be in the band for less time. take care. -christine mom to sydney/ 10.5 mo/ starband grad 10-06 > > Hi, my son is 4 1/2 months old and we had our consultation with cranial > tech today. Guest guest
Our pediatrician is giving us a tough time. She doesn't think he is severe enough to need one and until she sees the measurements she's against it. I spoke with her on the phone and she said that it must be a medical necessity for her to write the letter to the insurance company. Without the letter and prescription we can't get it. What state are you in? We can't get in to see the craniofacial dr until January. Thanks for the info! > > > > Hi, my son is 4 1/2 months old and we had our consultation with > cranial > > tech today. Guest guest
> Hi Crystal- You must feel relieved that they agreed with what you thought...??? When people only give one number are they usually giving the mid- face asymetry or the cranial vault assymetry? or skull-base? Do you know what these measurements are? Or anyone else out there know what they actually are? Are there any pics of Matt up? thanks, cheryl mother of six month- unbanded to date canada > Hi, my son is 4 1/2 months old and we had our consultation with cranial > tech today. Guest guest
, I did my son's measurements/ratios using a pic of the top of his head, and I think I did it correctly, and he was an 88% ratio. Seems like the back of head is getting flatter (!) Anyhow.....will your dr. not band if it's less than 90%? If my son were to get banded at 88%, what kind of improvement could I expect? Any ideas? Thanks! Serena > > > > Hi, my son is 4 1/2 months old and we had our consultation with > cranial > > tech today. Guest guest
Hi Serena, our doctor is conservative, so he recommends banding at 90%. I think he would give the Rx at a lower number if the parents felt strongly. I was trying to stress to the other mom that although 91% is " severe " , it isn't as bad as it sounds. I don't know how much improvement your son would get, but in general our ortho told us that a 5% correction is good, and that 10% is great. I took that to mean that not all babies get 10% correction. (for example going from 100 to 90). It has a lot to do with how early the baby is banded and how much growth the baby has. Although sydney still has a high number (about 86%) her head looks very normal to me. that is more important than the number. she's had a lot of rounding in back and although you can see flatness from some angles, few would notice it. You can see her photos in Our Plagio Babies S/ Sydney M if you're interested. take care. -christine mom to sydney/ 10.5 mo/ starband grad 10-06 > > > > > > Hi, my son is 4 1/2 months old and we had our consultation with > > cranial > > > tech today.
