Guest guest
Hello All, I wanted to share our bedtime story with all of you. My son Devin, has always been very attached to me. At bed time, he wouldn't give me a hard time about going to bed, but he would not let me leave the room until he fell asleep. At first, I thought it was kind of sweet and I took pride in the fact that he was being affectionate and wanted his mother there for comfort. After a couple of weeks, I was getting very grumpy with my husband and everyone around me because sometimes I would spend 1 1/2 hrs. waiting for my sweet child to fall asleep. I finally spoke to one of our ABA teachers and she immediately offered to implement an ABA sleep time program. It only took 3 days and the problem was solved. If Devin would go to sleep quietly and let mommy leave the room, he would get to pick two toys out of the " Bear in the Big Blue House Bag " (His craze at the time), when he woke up in the morning. He now knows to look at the clock and when it's 8,3,0 (8:30), he knows it's bedtime and we all go up to do the routine of brushing teeth and story and then, lights out and a good night kiss to mommy. I can't tell you what a change it has made in our lives. Working full time and then not being free until 10:00 was making me very unhappy because I couldn't get anything done. It has also helped Devin get more sleep because he now falls asleep right away. Needless to say, ABA has worked for our son and our family, but I do know that it is not for everyone.
