He is better, then cuts his thumb down to the tendon sheath. ER visit, they want to vaccinate for tetanus since his last one was more than 10 years ago. I was torn. But I thought, if it is the mercury, he can get the vaccine and we can chelate him right away. That should take care of it. It made him so much better before Within a week, he started worsening. Sleep disturbance, memory problems, angry outbursts, aggression. It will pass, we hope. It did not. After 2 months of hell, his psychiatrist ended up doubling the dose of two of his meds. He also got frequent infections. Life threatening ones. 3-4 serious pneumonias (hospitalized, oxygen, the works), sinus infections, etc. I took him to an immunologist at one of the best teaching hospitals in the country to check his immune system. He insisted on testing his immune system with the strep vaccine. My son also has psoriatic arthritis. One of the theories for that is a reaction to a severe strep infection, where the body interprets the strep as its own body material and develops an immune reaction to it. When the strep goes away, the immune system misinterprets normal body proteins in joints as continued strep and attacks them. This doc wanted to give the strep vaccine to this kid. I asked him--what if that is like pouring gasoline on a fire? Once it is done, you can't call it back. What if it flared up his already severe psoriasis and arthritis? He belittled my question ( " well, I don't know. Let's ask an immunologist. Oh wait!! That's me!! " ) and refused to do any further workup until I came to my senses. Yes, he knew I am a pediatrician. So I decided my son and I share half a genome, and I would get the vaccine as a test. I had six weeks of improved breathing (I also got frequent infections although not as severe). After that, the benefit went away, and I got joint pain that has not gone away. Well, I did some more research and ran across work on vitamin D. I checked my son's level--12. I tanked him up on D3, and since then not a single pneumonia, and only one cold in 5 years. Why didn't the immunologist think of that? > > You have to love those doctors!!!
