Being different

I have been " different " with respect to my my history. I am a 36

year old woman wiht PSC and Crohn's. It would be more " normal " to

be a man with PSC and UC. Normal is overrated anyway. :-)

Last week, I started having abdominal pain that was different from

my typical right sided ileitis/Crohn's pain. I went in to see my GI

doctor. Nothing seemed horribly wrong to my doc. My CBC was

normal, liver enzymes were actually a bit better than normal (at

least SOMETHING is going in the right direction). The pain got

worse and worse through the week. By 5am on Saturday, I'd had

enough. The pain came and went, like uterine contractions. There

was a tightening, a peak, and a relaxing that lasted about 30

seconds or so, repeated every 2-5 minutes. It was located right

under my sternum. The docs at the ER were puzzled. They called my

GI doc and he wasn't really sure either. After the XRay and the

double contrast CT, they discovered that I had free fluid in a

couple of spots in my abdomen, but they had no idea what it was.

They decided to do a laproscopy to see what was going on. What they

discovered was intussusception, which is very rarely found in

adults. (SEE! I just can't seem to be NORMAL) In adults it is

always associated with a mass of some sort. They did a resection of

about 3 inches of my bowel and found a polyp. We are waiting for

the pathology results.

I'm sore (my vaginal hysterectomy was a piece of cake compared to

this) and I'm ready to go home, but I spiked a temp of 101.8 this

morning, so they won't let me go until tomorrow at the earliest.

The good news is that I am still here, still pretty much ok, and

still marching on. I am way behind on my reading....I'll get caught

up soon.
