Guest guest
, not sure if this contains Hope's info on Baclofen. But wondered if it might help you in some way.... ~ChelleDeeTroll wrote: Hi Kathy, I'm so happy for you and double glad that you liked Dr. Haefner and she was so open to dialogue & a two way conversation *chuckle* That means so much! Hon I've seen that Baclofen mentioned in several places, it's used for nerve pain (spasms & tightness) and is a compounded gel, and I think it was initially developed or used for MS patients and PAD (peripheral arterial disease). The FDA's approved use is for as a muscle relaxant. Here's one I have about it that's an interview with "Skip Lenz' another compounding pharmacist. *grin* It's interesting as he also goes into how the nerves work and why it can help. http://www.msworld.org/past_chats/Guest_Speaker_Transcripts/SkipLenz.htm Be sure to see 'Skip' (the pharmacist) comments on NOT to use it with Elavil (amitriptyline) and his reasons, (near the bottom).....He says it will reduce the efficacy. When I first was researching I also saw this report.....and it might make 'me' think twice about combining them, (maybe) *grin* From: http://www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/ayp/questions.asp?label=1801 ''Baclofen can interact with tricyclic antidepressants, such as imipramine (Tofranil), clomipramine (Anafranil), and amitriptyline (Elavil). This combination can result in memory loss and reduced muscle strength.'' BUT ....... I 'think' they meant if using the Baclofen 'orally' or an 'injectable' form and not topically... but I have no idea, so it is something to think about. But then Haefner suggested it and I'm assuming 'both' are topical? So it's most likely to be ok but if it were me I'd use only the Baclofen. simply because 'I' too don't like those possible side effects of the antidepressants if an oral form but maybe topical is ok tho? Also I have this great list/chart of other various combinations that would be useful for those considering using some type of a medication for neuropathic pain even Fibro that I'll add below. Ya got me on a roll hon, LOL poor you and rare that I have a bit of time. *smile* (and sorry I just didn't have time to respond to your other post, I apologize.) Sandi, you might check these out too, maybe there's something here that can help you too. Some of the combos look interesting and the prices seem reasonable. You will see the Amitrip/baclofen combination here too. I hope you get HTML format to maintain it's form. and no doubt Bellevue pharmacy could make any of these up as well. But keep in mind I don't know if these can be used specifically on the vulva and may be for other neuropathic pain. So if I did order it, I'd definately mention where I was going to use it so it would have a non -irritating base, hopefully. I'm also hoping the E & T helps hon big time....even if it's not the 'final' answer it will help with that tissue to keep it healthy even if it's used in conjunction with some other things. Just remember it's not a fast fix and takes time and to use just enough to make a 'light' film over the area and then to very gently massage it in.
