Guest guest
I do not know how many students in one school have IEP's. I suspect there is only one of each ESE Specialist and Autism Coach in each school. ly,I don't care. And it doesn't matter. I don't care to hear excuses of why theschool district cannot live up to its responsibility to follow the law. In failing to do so results in many children not receiving their appropriate services to guarantee their individual rights under the law. Yes, there is only 8 hours in the day for school staff. Tell that to a parent who finds the time to work and whose day doesn't stop after work but starts when she gets home. Or tell that to a parent who can't find the time to work because she is raising a family whose members require her attention 24 hours per day. Â You say I shouldn't blame every school in Broward County. That is a very reasonable request. But let me make a very reasonable request as well. Give me the names of any school in Broward County that is not violating the child's FAPE requirement. If you can find one you will be helping me use the McKay Scholarship for next year. You can always sign the 10 day waiver form. Do you realize how many students in one school have IEPs? Do you realize that there are only one ESE specialist, Autism coach, and liaison per school? if they could multiply themselves to create more and ample times and dates for meetings, they might. there are only 8 hours they work and certain parts of that day have to be taken care of. I understand your frustration, but do not be too quick to make blanket statements regarding teachers, and school staff. No one wants them to do it to the parents. If you want collaboration, you ave to be part of that as well. If your child's school is handling something in a way that is wrong, or makes you feel uncomfortable, then deal with that specific school and/or teacher. This leaves very little wiggle room if the date they come up with is inconvenient to the parent. You might even hear something like, " This is the only date we can do it. " This method of not allowing enough time to reschedule may be convenient to the school but certainly not convenient for the parent. Guest guest
, it is the school's responsibility to work this out with the child's family. Most teachers feel that the IEP is the most important yearly meeting there is, and I am sure you agree. It is not in the school's interest to rush it.The family needs time to prepare for the meetingregarless of how busy the teachers are. .
